  • Nice. How long does a linocut take you generally? I've only tried it a few times but found it very satisfying. Especially after i found out about that lino that's softer than normal and far less hard work to cut. I tried a 2-colour lino cut once, which I really liked the look of. I have a friend who does lino and wood cuts - he tends to do 3-4 colour reductive cuts, which I don't think i'd have the balls to do!

  • This is only my 4th attempt but it took a few steady hours. It's fairly small too, the paper is A5.
I'm working up to doing 2 or 3 colour but I don't want to run till I can walk! Also, materials aren't cheap. I intend to try selling these as a fun sideline but if I keep spunking £££ on ruined Lino then it won't be viable.
For a great website devoted to it check out Linocut Boy - very inspiring and informative. If I was darn sarf I'd consider taking one of his courses.

  • So I've been experimenting with type on jackets, only pictures of a few but done about 10.

Not really sure what I'm gonna do with them yet but might do a show or something.

  • Nice! You seen any by Ornamental Conifer? He's got an eye for some nice typographic stuff and does the odd jacket as well as prints/walls/etc.

  • Very nice; are these drawn on the lino or done freehand? Hand-burnished, or do you have access to a press?

  • I draw the picture in pen, trace onto grease proof then rub the trace onto the Linoleum. After that I pick it out in sharpie pen. Painstaking but worth it. I hand burnish with a wooden spoon, but I actually get a better result with a wooden rolling pin and a lot of pressure!

  • Yeah Ornamental and Deathspray kinda inspired me to have a bash at it without me like ripping them off if that makes sense.

I'm tryna have the like a running theme with them all saying stuff like whats on them i.e. about girls without stating the obvious or guys depends who's wearing it I suppose.

  • Yeah not saying it was a ripoff at all, the conifer stuff is much more blocky and the DSC ones I've seen were all based on a motorsport livery of some kind. Nice link between the pieces too. Are you using signwriting enamel?

  • I totally got you. They defo gave me the push to start something as before that I was like I can't do that but I would like something like that.

Nah I haven't been using one shot as it can crack from what I read on my research, I have been using paint by a company called angelus they make specific leather stuff all the trainer painter use them and that. Pretty good and easy too work with too.

  • I printed a white version of the Linoleum Falcon - it came out ok!

  • There's a guy in Sheffield called James Green who does lino courses.

  • I'm interested in taking a course - cheers for that!

  • Love this. Recent work?

  • Thanks :) yep, messing about with an old mac se

  • Enjoying this thread: particularly the rude quality of the linocut work.

    Good work illuengers!

  • Brilliant - love the halftone fills. I had an SE/30 when i was a nipper - did quite a bit of doodling on macpaint when i wasn't playing Civilisation.

  • The lino isn't that cheap when you're getting through a lot of it. I wonder if there's some cheap alternative substance that's good for practising on?
I'll take a look at Linocut Boy.

I really need to get my DIY screen printing rig set up again. It's been way too long!

  • You can get a substance called softcut which is cheaper than quality Linoleum. It's good because it's cheap and very durable - it doesn't degrade. Downside is it doesn't cut quite as nicely as Linoleum. I actually did both my skulls on softcut.

  • Something I've been working on, the instant spoke card. Stick it around some cereal box card and voila!

  • Here's my latest linocut - Boba Fett!
Anyone who's done relief printing will know how difficult it is fitting 4 colours together, but I think it went ok.
I'll be selling these prints on my Etsy site. I'll link it if anyone is interested in a print. I'm making them to order. Cheers!
