there seems to be enough material to cut a new thread the next size up and change the bolt. Just an idea. Or.. cant you just get a hex nut in there(the recessed part) and use a longer threaded bolt. Either way it doesnt seem like something some careful consideration of drill use or a tap couldnt sort.
