@tommmmmmm
Was that you I saw on an orange Koga in thundercats kit having a chilled ride around the top on the M40 roundabout this morning while chatting with a female rider?Considered DASing you but obvs massively inappropriate considering the situation and the fact we were carengering.
Glad y'all did well and thoughts to the injured rider. -

Yes it was! She was getting worried about missing her start time and wasn't sure how or whether to go round the massive roundabout or do some dodgy U-turn.
What a weird place for a spot! What were you doing round there?

Nuts time on that course.
Sucks for the rider down, what a twat of a human hitting her. Hope she's prosecuted.

We were on our way home from a party in Henley. Definitely the most random forumenger spot I've ever had. We were just behind y'all at the lights entering the roundabout. We kept well back and held up a few cars for good measure.
Despite the fact I had no idea what you were riding or even that you tt'd we guessed a few from this parish would be riding. No idea how I guessed it was you so was amazed when I checked the thread!
That road is hairy enough in a car at times so muchos respect to everyone out there this morning. -

Great time, well played!

Velopark TT results are belatedly up.
I was 8 seconds quicker than the previous week, but 7 places down. @onyerbike was faster but beaten by a ridiculous time from a junior!?

At least at some point on Sunday he was looking where he was going.

Velopark Tuesday Tens on medium gear take two! Managed not to crash this time by playing it safe and using the bull horns when it got a bit spinny. Managed a 25.19 according to Garmin (112.5 average rpm) which I'm pretty happy with. Will gear up a bit next week and see what happens.

Good work! I was intending to go along tonight but I'm exhausted and barely stayed awake riding home.

I'm doing the E1/10A on Saturday and it looks like the HQ is about 10km away from the start. If there actually is an HQ because the address seems to be someone's house.
-
• #15714
Are you sure you are looking at the HQ and not the organisers address?
-
• #15715
I think the HQs tend to be near Ugley for that course, theres a few bungalows in the middle of nowhere that house quite a few of the old London clubs. People used to ride out, kip overnight in the bunk beds and then race. Leave plenty of time to get to the start line..

On the KCA 12 hr years ago I used 86" fixed, but I never really trained and cramped terribly in the last two hours 192 miles
My Clubmate Rob Bullyment rides 86" Fixed and smashed our club record two years ago on the Newbury 12hr with about 257 miles and only just missed out on the clubs 24hr record by 0.75 miles on the Mersey Roads last year with 461.3 miles -

The 'Uts are on all congregated around North Hall Road by the end of the road going East from Ugley, just to the East of the M11.
There are a load of Audaxes that start from there. Victoria CC, Shaftesbury CC and Comrades CC from memory. Sadly the huts are slowly being sold off.

Sorry not to be able to push you off!
We had the 2nd week of the transponders last night. I can report that their performance is improving. So expect faster results this week.

Very happy to have beaten my 10mi PB by 1:20 last night. Lovely conditions.
-
• #15720
Wow, that's a massive chunk, p881?
During a week in Mallorca I've set two new 20 minute bests, so hopefully I'll have a corresponding pb to go with them with 2 10s and a 25 next week!
-
• #15721
Thanks - nope it was P412 (21:42), although I would like to visit P881 at some point. Still a long way to on a Sunday morning for 20(ish) minutes of fun. Is the UTAG 10 on it? I remember some fast times (inc. @hippy) last year.

Oooh, P881 open wednesday evening next week. Cheeky WFH request put in...
-
• #15723
P881R or something? I got my PB on that course after the TCR.
Very strange riding a 10mi TT with no training after doing 4000k across Europe a month beforehand. I wonder what I would've done if I was on the E2 on a good day though.

Yeah they run them every Wednesday I think. Bit too far away for me on a school-night though

Back up for a 12
Got one ta. Can't decide between bringing it as a backup of leaving it at home to resist temptation.
Sorry to be slow responding to this discussion.
It seems to me that for twelve we all need whatever help we can get.
If you've got a helper I think it would be crazy not to bring a spare bike. Emergencies do happen, things can go wrong unexpectedly and punctures are to be expected.
In my own first twelve I was 'instructed' by my helpers to change from TT bike to a more comfortable road bike. They were right, and although my distance was pretty feeble, I did at least finish and so achieved a p.b. (the first attempt at a distance is bound to be a best as long as you finish!). I'd say that for a first twelve comfort is far and away the most important feature of the bike.
I don't think you've said which event you're riding. If it's the Newbury, I'd say fixed should be ok - as you probably know it has been won recently with an excellent mileage done on single freewheel. The Kent course would be riskier: those flat roads in the marshes may look tempting, but it's almost always windy, plus you've got a tough climb late in the day up to the finishing circuit. Personally I'd still choose Kent because riding up and down the A31 all day would drive me insane. These are the only two events still existing of which I have any experience.
If a spare back wheel (sprint or pressure) for a different sprocket would be useful, send me a p.m.
Incidentally, and this is only hearsay, but I understand the Newbury event may have trouble with the HQ - new management don't want to open up early enough. May be worth checking.
Anyway - Good luck!
James Rix broke the course record on H25/2 this morning. He held the record for 20 minutes, then John Dewey broke it again, beating the time before today by over a minute, with 47:35.
For my part, I did 57:55. I was hoping to break the hour at some point this season, but I didn't actually think it was going to happen. I'm very pleased with that time.
Sadly all while all this was going on one of the riders was hit by a driver who was adjusting their radio. She has broken her shoulder and something else (possibly hip) but is in the John Radcliffe and apparently otherwise alright. There wasn't a huge amount of signage on the road, but she can't have been the first rider the driver had passed, and it could have been much much worse.
Ride/drive safe everyone.
