  • Mersey Bank or Arrowfield Estate for cheaper housing near Chorlton/Didsbury.

  • Yeah, 2 bed, Didsbury, £875 pcm. Blame the beeb.

  • Bolton, big 2up 2down terraced for under £500pcm.

  • The Whalley Range conservation area is a glorious place to live. Loosely this triangle here, but wouldn't object to branching out down the parallel roads to the east that link to Alexandra Park. I also like that bit of Old Trafford northwest up to Ayres Road.

Obvs Chorlton is nice but way pricier.

  • Manchester's not a patch on Glasgow and its west end. I love the city but it can feel edgy in some places. Theres areas like piccadilly and oxford road I'd be careful on at night. My ex lives in Glasgows west end and had some amazing times.

  • Levy, obviously. It's the new Chorlton don't you know, easy trip to the vezondrome too.
I've never really had any trouble in town and I've spent a lot of time drunk there over the years. We did have a gang of masked yoots try and take a bike from polo last night, but you know, Moss Side innit.
Chat to Sywia, she's done the opposite move quite recently.

  • Chorltons gone posh, and very metropolitan, even Whalley Range is on the up these days. I dated a girl who predicted big property increases twice in five years in upcoming Manchester areas, she made £150k, I wouldn't mind but she was horrible.

  • I visit Salford, I have family there, it has a bad rep, but to be honest I've always felt welcome there. Recently has seen a large influx of Orthodox Jews, which has altered the character of the area massively. Sorry if that sounds UKIPpy, I don't mean it like that at all.

Also have a mate in Stockport, which he doesn't mind, says it's a bit better value.

  • Don't go to Stockport.

  • Although there is a few decent pubs.

  • Yeah, I think he just resides there, the socialising and work takes place elsewhere

  • Definitely don't go to Salford.

  • Cheers all, I had another look on rightmove this morning at some of the mentioned areas and can see some flats that look nice at not too bad prices which is really all I wanted at the moment.

Don't want to get too invested in thinking/talking about it in case I jinx things.

  • Recently has seen a large influx of Orthodox Jews,

The Jews with the hats and curls tend to live between Prestwich and Cheetham Hill. Many Volvos.

  • I first lived in Levy in 2006-2009 and moved back year 4 years ago, love it here. It's definitely changed a bit with more people buying here who have been priced out of the rest of south Manchester.

  • Levy veggie night market was good, had an awesome halloumi hotdog.

  • Yo MV! My wife lived in manchester for a year. But it was 14 years ago...
She's said pretty much what UniversalDav has already said. Didsbury is where she lived and would be the equivalent of Glasgows posh west end.
But she also says she didnt get on well with the city and was glad to leave!

  • Yes you'll never see a Volkwagen even to this day. I heard that from an Orthodox Jewish lady I knew.

  • Didsbury is getting terrorised by marauding gangs of chavs at the moment. Which is a real shame as its full of independents.

  • Just seen this. I lived in Manchester for about 6 years while at uni, long time ago though. I'd probably look at Chorlton now.

  • I should have updated, I didn't get offered the job and wouldn't have accepted anyway as the pay wasn't enough so will be staying in Glasgow which tbh, I'm pretty happy about.

  • If I had the choice to go back to Manchester, I wouldn't take it.

  • From reading all your posts in this thread, you want to live in Chorlton. Potentially a bit expensive but im sure if you dig you will find something in your price range. I grew up in Urmston which has cafes/bars (although nothing that cool really) and good transport right into the city centre. (10 min train, 20 min bike ride) Its a nice area.
