Output of the front light is fucked? Test that.

Doesn't seem like it, wires from it to the rear make lots of happy numbers on my multimeter screen. Could be it's lower than 6V or something I suppose. Will check again.

Output is ok, rear light is ok:
Are you sure you are connecting them properly? How are they connected? Twisted?

Shorting when you've joined them? How did you strip the cables?
