Haven't done proper side by side comparison but my light seems bright enough to me.

That's what she said...!

Works better on a bike though.

I need a rim, which means visiting my wheel builder mate in Norwich, which means that I'll have this ready for winter 2020 by the time I get over there.

Cheers - I must have misremembered the figures. I'm currently planning a dynowheel build, and do rather fancy a SON - shiny! - but not sure I fancy the 2-300% markup over the 3N80. I am possibly going to succumb to an Edelux ii, mind...
-
• #732
Yeah, the 3N80 is pretty good value. If you can afford the outlay for the SON (and like the shiny) then do, I like the servicability. Check out the B&M IQ-X, great light.
-
• #733
Cool. Thanks i'll probably give it a go. If my bike catches fire i'm blaming you though :-)
-
• #734
Edelux II is great, and Talbot have some mounts in so you can mount on a mudguard which will make it greater.

@hamrack 3N80 can be serviced too, the guts are available separately as I found out when mine failed. Think I payed €30ish for a kit and when you take it apart you can access the bearings. Quite hard to do if you want do get at the bearing specifically though, there's a wire that's prone to snapping during the process and then you need new innards anyway... Here's a link but it's €41 now apparently: http://bicikli.de/shop/SHIMANO-spare-part-Y-2Z498010-DH-3N80-INTERNAL-ASSEMBLY-AXLE-LENGTH-108MM-Shimano-Code-Y2Z498010
-
• #736
Yeah, I know you can swap the internals as a whole but it seems wasteful if it's only the bearings that need attention... Much the same as the Shimano hub gears.
-
• #737
The Shimano LX DH-T675 is exactly the same hub and internals as the XT DH-T8000-3D save for a steel axle - XT has alloy so comes in @ 56g lighter. Equates to approx. 20euro saving @ retail. Either way, both decent hubs.

@cgg Found this - you might be interested in it: http://bemme51.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/bicycle-standlight-with-son-edelux-ii.html

Much amaze, thanks! Might get the solderer out of the drawer...

The supernova E3 instructions say not to run the taillight to ground via the frame, both wires need to attach to the headlamp. Can anyone explain why?
-
• #741
Using the frame as ground is a recipe for endless gremlins?

-
• #743
Thanks.
Will certainly look at that when my current secula dies.
Bought a separate wire cage protector thingy that you mount the light through, but it's enormous! I might have to 'adapt' it with a hammer.
-
• #744
It's a separate protector. I have a secula on a seatpost, will put one on a mudguard soon. And I doubt it would last long without something around it, b&m makes great stuff, but its all a bit plasticky.
-
• #745
endless gremlins?
I've looked into this and it seems it may not be about gremlins after all, it summons zuuul from the old ghostbusters movies. Better do what it says in the manual.
-
• #746
There was also something about the headset not being conductive enough in some cases, leading to taillight malfunction.
-
• #747
There is no Dana, only Zuuuuuuul
-
• #748
Thru axle dynamo hub options? I think all I can see is SON and SP as options?
-
• #749
Did you see Keith Lemon and some other bloke's remake of that the other night?
I quite enjoyed it. Probably would be funnier if I knew who any of the celebrities were and their catch phrases.
-
• #750
No one saw that, everyone was watching Eurovision, it's the law.
@hamrack Ahh....I thought he was going with the shiny black one.
@Sparky Yup, I get fucking mad having to charge lights now.
