Hmm it from some photos it looks like there is still quite a lot of room with 35mm cross tyres on. Have you got one? What do you think of it overall?

What stem is that? It looks like the Zipp, but dosen't look like a 6 degree angle?

It's the new pro vibe di2 stem, (130mm -17)

Anyone happen to have a Canyon Ultimate fork or a broken frameset knocking about? I need headset, fork and hangers...

Canyon owners, I have a question. I've just purchased an ultimate disc in size a medium. It's arrived (not hassle free) and is built up with a 100mm stem/handlebar combo and looks darn-right snazzy.
I'm 178cm tall, with a roughly 86cm inseam (so roughly 76cm saddle to centre of the bb). To fit me and give me a decent position I've dropped the stem below all the spacers which gives me a c.10-11cm drop from saddle to bars and a relaxed reach.
Generally it all feels pretty comfy and racy enough for someone who is not very flexible but I have come off a steel frame with a c.15-16cm drop.
However, am I being dumb - should I exchange it for a small frame (plus longer stem) to allow me to increase the drop and therefore my position overtime? When standing over the frame I've not got a huge amount of room as these are surprisingly big frames.
Anyone with sizing experience would really help! Many thanks!

I did the same thing with my v-drome when I first brought one from canyon too, I am rough the same size as you too, (179cm but with 80cm inseam) I would recommend down sizing to a small as that what I would probably ride, purely you can control the bike more, have a longer stem and seatpost (for the pro look) plus it will also be a little lighter.
Also if you had a bike fit and you know your measurements then you can ask canyon to specify stem sizes and if you're super flexible you can ask for a zero stack headset for the slam look.

If this is true, I would stick with it. Massive drop is good for instagram likes - maybe less so after 200km in the saddle. Ultimately it depends what you are going to use the bike for. I wouldn't seek out a 'pro' fit unless I was racing to a serious level.

Hold on, isn't this the main point?
Seriously though, I'm not racing, but just like to go for a few hours and test myself.
My feeling is I should drop down a size as with spacers and a longer stem I can have almost the same reach/drop - it just comes with the added flexibility of getting 'more pro' should I want to particularly as my flexibility should increase.

Or you could just put a 17 degree stem on and look even more pro than with spacers

Is the seat and head tube angle the same on both frames? What is the actual difference in stack and reach? How much saddle set back do you have? Will you have toe overlap on be smaller frame? Etc, etc, etc, etc.
Another thing - you can get low in the saddle by bending your arms. The worst look of all is a 'pro' fit with shallow drop bars and bolt straight arms.
Caveat to all that. You should do whatever makes you happiest. Although that may differ from one day to another (it does in my case - i have a couple of custom frames and there are design choices I made on both that annoy me everyday now).

Riding in the drops is overrated.

I had a play around with the geometry on sketchup and with some nominal guess work around the centre of the bars they look pretty similar even without spacers. The smaller size has a longer stem to achieve an almost identical 58-59cm reach which is what I've always felt best with.
Having said all that - Canyon suggested a wait time 3-4 weeks for a small and the need to charge me again for the exchange and then retrospectively refund me for the medium once they're happy it is 'new' condition. Bit of a pain in the arse really...

I'm 1.80, with a 79cm saddle height and broadly speaking I am very happy with my medium Ultimate with slammed stem. I agree that they feel big, especially coming from a very compact frame with very long stem. Even slammed it's not a massive drop at all.
I have some experience working with Canyon rentals and my rule of thumb was 75cm as a cut-off point between S and M.
Although it's very much an Internet Bike Fit I do have a feeling a Small should at least be tried on / considered. That one piece stem / handlebar is not really doing it for me (too short / too wide) though.

The canyon one piece can be ordered in different sizes.

You can't I don't think - at least not when I asked.
I've got a 75-76 saddle height right now...so bang in the middle. I put my leg over a Small in a rapha and it feels like a teeny bike so my gut says stick with the medium.
Frankly I should just stump up for a bike fit...

Sizing chart has changed since I last saw it, but there other options if you really like the look of the one-piece set up:

35mm maximum tyre clearance but if you went slick to get it wider then it would depend on the tyre rim combo. I dont think you can convert to 650b as the tyre will be widest where the frame is isnt... if that makes sense...
