  • Classic policy? Or just un-modded?

  • Insurance due: 650 notes. Am I winning at life?

  • Mine is £140...

  • That's your mortgage.

  • Always regretted getting shot of it, but at the time just had my first daughter and the roof was corroded at top of the tailgate and used to drip water on her carrycot on the back seat, used to cover her with a bin liner if it was raining, new mortgage and fuck all money it had to go.
It would be tax exempt now too :)

  • It's cheating - classic car insurance. It needs to be garaged, but that's a fiver a week.

  • Is there limited mileage as well? I will have a garage...

  • When I was looking classic car insurance is only available on second and subsequent vehicles- can't be your "standard" car.

  • My diesel Mini clubman estate thing is £5 more expensive to insure than my old M135i which was worth more than twice as much
    Madness.

  • Rwb chiming in on the liveries...

  • I had a classic as my only car for a number of years, Footman James or Lancaster - I forget which. They also let you add a normal car as your second.

  • Be careful with Classic Car policies, some don't give NCB so you end up getting stung if you switch back to a normal car. I had one for 8 years as my only car through Peter Best, only survived the return because I was named on another policy for that period.

  • My tank holds 50l I've covered just over 100 miles since my last top up and I'm 1/2 way through it if the petrol gauge is to be trusted. That means I'm doing 18-19mpg and mileage wise I'm about 80% motorway/country lanes and 20% non rush hour city driving.

There must be something pretty wrong with my car I reckon, odd as it appears to run fine and performs better than I was expecting. One thing I noticed is that somebody replaced the stock exhaust with a 1" pea shooter backbox, could this be messing with my fuel consumption?

I'm gonna replace the air filter, plug and backbox hoping that'll claw back some miles to my gallon. I should be getting 29-33mpg according the manual.

  • Hmmm... I think the manual is lying to you: http://www.fuelly.com/car/subaru/impreza

  • Average fuel consumption so far, 16.6mpg. Best instant reading 30.2mpg at 70mph on the M1, You can imagine the worst :-D

  • Next time, fill the tank and zero the milecounter. Drive, then when you fill it up again make a note of the number of litres it takes to fill up and the number of miles done - then you can work out the MPG.

The fuel gauges are not very accurate.

Good luck doing the plugs :P

This is what Fuelly does. Text mileage, litres and price each time you fill up (to first pump click for consistency) and it will text you back previous mileage, cost per litre, overall mpg etc etc. It also tracks it online.... my current car: http://www.fuelly.com/car/bmw/430d/2015/soul7963/550815

  • I'm slowly coming to terms with selling my w124. I think it's closing in on some big repair bills and I'm not overly keen to pay them. I think it needs to go to a home mechanic.

I'm currently pondering a skoda superb. The Merc was bought with the heart, next car will be bought with the head. Boring though.

  • skoda superb

Have you considered the Yeti - they're pretty awesome cars.

  • Cool tool - thanks. I've become minorly obsessed with mpg recently. How does it know when you're in a city or not?

  • It doesn't. You can use the app to track it or guesstimate based on your recent trips.

That's why mine shows 50:50 as i can't be bothered with that part.

  • I have and like the look of them, they're supposed to be pretty small in the back seat though, leaving little room for myself when I have a rear facing kid behind me. I've had to move my seat forward about 10cm in the w124, and that's a big car. So, with that in mind, the superb sounds like a winner if I can have decent leg room for the next 3 years

  • Forgot about the whole 'kid' thing... :)

The Superb is an excellent car!

  • Currently trawling the internets for ads so will try and look at a few this weekend.

I'd love an auto but what about DSG? Avoid like the plague or are they all sorted now? Looking at cars from '10-14
