  • Medium Gear isn't restricted to fixed is it?

No, but you will be mocked by all the proper riders when you have to go through scrutineering in reverse.

  • Going to all the obscure records ;)

  • Damn right. When I said I'd get all the club TT records I meant ALL.

  • When I said I'd get all the club TT records I meant ALL

So we can expect to see you on a trike some time soon? Best to get the men's trike records done and dusted before the gender reassignment you'll need to get the women's bike and trike records :)

  • Mock away. I don't want to set up another bike for it.

When I've beaten you all, you can wheel my bike backwards to my car for me.

  • Well since my times are faster than all the women's and trike records, I've already beaten them, pedant.

Anyway, there's no Trike records listed on WCC's site and you forgot the junior records smarty pants...

  • Didn't I read "gear for the fastest part of the course" somewhere?

  • IME different people prefer different approaches. Some say gear for average cadence across the course, others say gear for the easy bits and others say gear for the hard bits. Personally (in my very limited experience) I find gearing slightly to the hard side of average cadence works best for me, but I guess it's also relatively dependent on the course... most of my fixed TTs have been on the H10/17 variants which doesn't have any major descents/climbs.

  • I'm still figuring out what works for me in terms of cadence etc. I don't actually have a cadence sensor on my fixed bike, let alone power, so all I really go on is how I feel and how long is left. The former changes based on wind, incline, etc. The latter usually comes as a pleasant surprise, which means something is going right.

  • Spoco - road bike or fine fixed too?

Specifically E9/25. It doesn't look massively bumpy...

Edit: Actually it does on the Strava profile, even if it didn't on CTT. Clip-ons on a road frame?

  • Spoco - road bike or fine fixed too?

    Ask @pnut :)

  • Hippy's MG Bike

I believe that Tony Doyle's 56 (Crabwood event 1980) which put the record on the shelf for 19 years was done on a geared road bike with the gear mechs stopped down to give 72" as top.

Most of the MG record info is here:

    http://www.fixedwheel.co.uk/medium%20gear%20history.htm

But I don't think that site mentions the road bike aspect of TD's record.

  • "For many years the record was held by former world professional pursuit champion Tony Doyle, who in 1980 recorded 56′ 30″ on a pretty-much standard for the time track bike with drop handlebars."

  • Is gender re-reassignment allowed?

If so, I'm interested in finding a partner (either gender obviously) for the Ladies London - York tandem record, which has stood at 10 hours 43 minutes since 1937. (See RRA website).

  • That's clearly the same ride. As I said, I can't give any authority for my story at the moment, but I will make enquiries.

  • Records

Great discussion - more than I'd expected, but some action is needed if anything's going to come out of this. Although it's not really in line with forum practice I think you will need an actual meeting to make decisions about how this might work.

    The C Word
I hesitate to mention this, but it's beginning to sound like a committee. However, if a meeting could reach a decision, the agreement (whatever you have decided) could be put forward with more authority than any one individual posting his own ideas. With luck you'd only need one meeting to start with - perhaps in the future you might also have an end of season meeting to ratify any record claims for that year, and possibly some kind of presentation for the (revived) forum BAR at the same time.

If this idea is accepted I don't think I should be present, for the following reasons:

    1. I'm unlikely to be competing myself.
    2. I'm on enough committees already.
    3. You don't want to be told how to run your affairs by an aged dinosaur.
  • Time to get my missus on a tandem.

  • Is gender re-reassignment allowed?

    Yes, see CTT Regulation 10

  • Lol - I need to do a bit more posting in the next few weeks ;) [joke!]

  • I'll show you my Regulation 10 if you show me yours...

  • Anyone on here riding the ECCA 25 on the 28th? I'm off at 7.07am so if I can't find someone who is driving from London I guess I'll have to rent a car.

  • When I said re- reassignment I wasn't stammering!

I did ask my partner if she would wait for me (to re-reassign), but she mumbled something I didn't quite understand about latent lesbianism.

  • Love how Dowsett is smashing out 19 min tens on the Maldon club eve. In his national champ skin suit.

  • When I said re- reassignment I wasn't stammering!

Apologies, wasn't paying attention. I've been kicked out of bed for pronoun error, so attention to detail clearly isn't my strong suit :)

  • That's what I always do, seems to have worked for the past 10yrs!
