  • Well, not completely.

Alo Donegan did a 59 in 1934, but that was in Ireland where they didn't have to wear those ridiculous jackets.

  • They must all be very short then.

  • Forum records = any club, CTT-legal fixed or SS only, 2017-on.

There was a consensus that records should be held by active forum members, so perhaps add a minimum post count. I'd tentatively suggest 100 posts as that is hopefully enough to prevent people joining up just to bag the records, and it isn't so high as to exclude genuine regular posters. (everyone posting on the previous page makes this target easily, @cjr being the 'quietest' member with c.400 posts)

    So:

Forum records = any club, CTT-legal fixed or SS only, 2017-on, >100 posts

There was discussion of age group records, or is it better to keep everyone together? Do we have enough people to make each age band competitive?

Finally, someone mentioned that instead of keeping a conventional set of records, and thus their progression, that we could have a rolling list of "Fastest nn Times". Which option do people prefer?

  • Forum BAR to keep track of 2017 times, records to include historical times. BAR also pushes people to have a go at gateway longer events.

  • Saw @tommmmmmm is penultimate man off on the 25/2 next weekend - enjoy that skislope! Good chance that Dewey will set a new CR.

  • better to keep everyone together?

    Age-ist.
The only thing I know for certain about everyone on this forum,
    is,
they are all aging, (calendrically), at the same rate as me.

My only hope to feature in a Top50 would be at the youngest age in a (mature) age bracket.

  • I meant to ask about the course.

    It's a fast one then?

  • Well the first two miles are certainly fast

  • Damn you and your fixed gear only records!
Hippy and I can have our geared ones. Well he can have the 24. I'll have the rest!

  • That was our event. If we had entries for the medium gear, I was in Japan at the time so I don't know, then I am sure the organiser would have checked them. I can aske her..

  • We need LFGSSVTT records as well then, with times on standard.

  • There was proper scrutiny, lines drawn on the road checking for the distance of a pedal rotation. I assumed it would just be a case of asking what gear ratio we were on.

I came last in the MG category by about 40 minutes due to starting late. And being slow.

  • I still haven't got the gearing right.

The first few TTs this season I've been on roughly 88" (apart from the medium gear), but it's always felt either under-geared or over-geared depending on the part of the course I'm on.

Now I've got a 52t up front it looks like I could go 91" or 98". Not sure I'd even get up the hill to the start line on 98".

Should I just buy a geared bike?

  • I'd go 98".

  • 'VTT'?
    Veteran TT?

  • Yep, as in Veteran Time Trial Association of what I is a member. Gets me easier entry onto fast races on the E2 courses.

  • Not sure I'd even get up the hill to the start line on 98"

Even I've got up to the start on 100", and it's very unlikely that your W/kg are lower than mine. Gear for the rest of the course, anything over 60" is too high to be ideal for riding to the start, and any sensible gear is going to be way spinny down the ski slope, so you basically have to disregard those bits and worry about everywhere else.

  • ...it's always felt either under-geared or over-geared...

Pretty much a definition of riding fixed.

  • Pretty much a definition of riding fixed

Except on those special days when you're on the right gear all the way around.

  • Kate probably will too the way she's going, she was about 15 seconds off her pb on the Welsh course last weeekend and everyone else seems to have been 2 minutes slower!

Hopefully they use the right finish this time around, they used the 10 finish at the event in September so the course was about 200m short!

  • Should I just buy a geared bike?

Stick it out for a season and maybe make a decision once it's finished so you can spend the winter training on an appropriate bike. I still haven't beaten my 10mi PB on a geared bike yet...

  • You raced a 12hr? That's probably mine too and the 15mi and 30mi unless you've done them?
I've never raced fixed though so I'm tapping out of all of them. Maybe I'll start racing a MG just for the LOLs until someone beats one of my Willesden records and I have to get it back.

  • Has that ever happened?

  • Medium Gear isn't restricted to fixed is it?
So, in theory, I could use a magic gear singlespeed conversion on the Shiv?
