True, it's just to refresh really. Easy to get carried away with ideas of tiles but it sounds like it'll be beyond my skill and a sensible budget at the moment. So hardboard / MDF ok for vinyl backing presumably?

Floor boards knackered with big & variable spacing?
If not why bother?

If floorboards are uninsulated/have air void beneath them,
I would be more tempted to add to add a layer of yielding insulation.

I won't know until I get the floor up, but quite possibly. It feels like there's something down there at the moment, as there's a slight rise in front of the kickboard and there was 6mm MDF under the bathroom vinyl too.

edit again: this seems like pretty good value.
