  • I was at the E2 as well (supporting, not riding).

It was a quick day, despite being earlier in the year than in 2016: it seemed everyone I spoke to had done well.

My rider won the women's comp. and improved on last year by over a minute.

The winner is five foot nothing: his watts/kg must be impressive.

  • And shows my ridiculous commitment to keeping the DNS/ randomly having to go into work instead.

  • Tester's Thoughts on Records.

If these conditions are what the forum wants, then that is how it should be.

It's a pity Tester has not really explained why he wants thing arranged in this way, because there is a potential problem - most of the users of this thread are already in other clubs, and it would clearly not be in the interest of LFGSS CC to have established riders joining as second claim members in order to scoop up records.

Incidentally, I wish every success to LFGSS CC - it's great to have new clubs coming along - especially when many of the old ones are beginning to look grey and wrinkly. I assume that the new club either already has its own records, or that it will develop some.

In the end, records are only of interest if people are interested in them - as they once were with the RRA records discussed above. I would have thought that for a single gear forum single gear records would be interesting.

  • My ten pence worth on Records -

This is a bit of fun and should be treated as such. There should be a rolling top 5 for each standard distance and we trust people to be honest (no need to list placing, winner etc) but the course and date would be good for reference. If you do a TT faster than anyone in the top 5 you bump them down and re-post all the lists. We could have times for fixed and geared.

I suggest a top 5 so that it give lesser riders a target and hopefully keeps things a bit more active, same with fixed and geared.

This is not a proper club with a secretary etc and we don't promote events so I think it should be done in the spirit of the forum.

  • Oh yeah, you have to post yourself (be an active member) and you can claim times from when you FIRST POSTED on the forum. As an example, @pnut may have an account but has never posted so would not be eligible until he does.

  • Do you know where ECCA publish results?

  • Forum records =/ club records. Separate things.

  • top 5 so that it give lesser riders

    Top 50 more like.

  • I like the idea of four records being distinct from club records... I think the club is great and it performs a useful role but comparatively few regular posters compete under it's banner. I would encourage the club to set up it's own set of records, but for the wider community I like the idea of forum records.

If we include historical submissions in a geared category then hippy and skinny will have it pretty much wrapped up!

  • This is basically what the form BAR spreadsheet was doing.

  • hippy and skinny will have it pretty much wrapped up!

    I'm ok with that ;)

  • joins lfgss cc as second claim

  • This was my reasoning for suggesting new claims only - we're likely to see movement and changes as the year progresses rather than just an old set of unbeatable results.

Definitely wasn't just because I did a fixed TT the day after and know I won't stand a chance otherwise...

  • I've just entered 6 time trials, this is more races than I did in 2o16 total, thankfully all within a 30 mile radius of home!

  • I agree with @tommmmmmm.
    Maybe:
Forum records = any club, CTT-legal fixed or SS only, 2017-on.
LFGSS CC Records = (separate issue, really?) first claim only, any CTT-legal machine, 2017-on.

  • Question: Do MG records have to be set in MG events? I presume so, as there would be gear inch/rollout scrutineering, right?

  • LFGSS CC Records = (separate issue, really?) first claim only, any CTT-legal machine, 2017-on.

Other than 2017-on, this seems to be the same rules most clubs use. Club records should be from when the club was incorporated not 2017 on.

  • No scrutineering in the one and only MG event I rode. I guess they just trusted everyone.

  • MG records in MG events only?

The Lea Valley event referred to above had a medium gear section within a normal event. I don't know whether there was any scrutiny of the bikes, but I will make enquiries.

It does seem to me that of all the possible records there might be, for this forum the MG 25
(and possibly MG 10) should be high on the list.

Irrespective of any claim my clubmate may have, I'd be inclined to take these claims on trust (I mean for these records generally). There's no money involved, and in any case what sort of person would want to cheat at this?

  • I certainly agree with cjr that this should be fun.

Getting over serious leads to the whole project being swamped with rules.

  • What I was getting at, was if I wanted to have a crack at a MG record, do I need to wait for an MG event or could I enter any race and people will trust that my bike was to the MG specifications? I'm not casting any doubt on previous records, it was more thinking about my own record setting possibilities.

  • Don't run yourself down too much, tommmm.

You can't know how you will improve in the future. Many riders achieve ambitions near the end of long careers.

Ron Brown (yes, the same one as the Hounslow's Ron Brown Memorial 100) started racing before the war (born 1922) when a sub hour 25 was almost unheard of. He achieved this goal as a vet.

Ron was remarkable in many ways, but perhaps his most notable feature was the lack of a right arm.

  • Hippy,

I feel pretty certain that if you said you had ridden an event on a 72" gear, everyone here would accept it.

I'm sure Nic's time is beatable, but I think you will need a good course and a good day.

  • started racing before the war (born 1922) when a sub hour 25 was almost unheard of

Completely unheard of, the comp record didn't drop below an hour until 1944
