Oh, for sure. It's just you are sharing the track with at least 20-30 other riders so each time round you end up taking different lines, braking at different points etc so it's a bit tricky to have a smooth, repeatable effort each lap. But yeah, that first lap definitely caught up with me toward the end.
Will definitely try a negative split next week.
Of course its possible to have a pacing strategy. It sounds like you started too hard and suffered for it. You could try a negative split next time, so ride at a lower power for the first half, then increase power for the second half.
