Cheers all. I'm genuinely surprised by that result given the circumstances.
NP: 395w
Ave: 386w
Weight: 76.6kg
FTP 376w (probably lower though, as I've been mainly drunk on stag do's the last few weeks).Question, do you think it is possible to have a pacing strategy? If so I didn't attempt one, first lap power average was 437w and I suffered pretty badly the next couple!
-
• #15578
Of course its possible to have a pacing strategy. It sounds like you started too hard and suffered for it. You could try a negative split next time, so ride at a lower power for the first half, then increase power for the second half.
-
• #15579
Oh, for sure. It's just you are sharing the track with at least 20-30 other riders so each time round you end up taking different lines, braking at different points etc so it's a bit tricky to have a smooth, repeatable effort each lap. But yeah, that first lap definitely caught up with me toward the end.
Will definitely try a negative split next week.

Big watts.

Great numbers. Congrats

• #15582
Jeez, those numbers.
Please don't tell me you have a full-time job and kids too.

I think it was Tao that broke the course record. His brother Bede is getting pretty fast, but not sure he is quite as fast as his brother yet.
Edit - Tao did a 20.43 two years ago.
-
• #15584
I got told by Rory, who works with Bede, that he broke the course record but it didn't count because he was still a junior - sounds pretty harsh if it was true.
-
• #15585
20.43 is mad quick. Considerably faster than the quickest laps of the E/1/2 crits held at LVV.
@Pifko yes, and not yet. Looks like they may be coming next year so planning to hang up the wheels at the end of September. The training slog:enjoyment ratio for me is poor, trying to do it on no sleep sounds even worse!

trying to do it on no sleep sounds even worse!
Correct, it's not much fun.

Forum TT records
I can't really agree with tommmm about no retrospective claims. Surely a lot of the interest in records comes from the way things get faster. If there's nothing to look back on, that leaves your record claim in a vacuum.
Also, there seemed to be a fair amount of interest in this idea up to the time that tommmm made his objection to past rides.
So, I'm now going to put in a modest claim, just as an example (and not, as I'm sure you will all understand, in any way wanting to show off)
Vets 100 (60-64 years age group)
Claimant .... time .... Event ...... Gear.... Event Winner
Clubman ... 4.41.09....... Ron Brown Memorial 25.6.2006 ... 90" .. Paul Holdsworth 3.51.42.But while we're on the subject, here's a much better claim - more relevant to the forum and much more recent:
25 miles Medium Gear (72")
Claimant .................. Time ............ Event ............... Event Winner (72")
Staggy (HDW)....... 57.19 ........... Lea Valley (8.4.17) ....... Gray Turnock (Lea Valley 8.4.17) 54.08.A bit of background to this ride.
Nic has posted here from time to time as 'Staggy'. He has proved himself to be a formidable performer on fixed, frequently winning hotly contested club events on fixed against strong contenders riding state of the art geared machines. He has been keen to establish a Hounslow club medium gear record for some time - we knew what it was - Jeff Marshall with 1.2.30 in about 1961 - but we had not entered it in our handbook as a record. Nic has certainly smashed that one!I think Nic was a touch unlucky to come up against Mr. Thurnock in this event, since his 54.08 is now listed as the second fastest ever m.g. 25 (fastest: Zak Carr 53.23, Harp, 12.5.2002). As far as I know neither Gray Thurnock nor the late Zak Carr are or have been forum users, so it seems reasonable for Nic to claim this record - his time is currently listed as the thirteenth fastest ever, btw.
If there is a faster forum ride, Nic would like to claim the Vets record (45-49 age group).
A final note: I've put Nic's claim here acting as The Hounslow's press officer. I hope this goes a little way to demonstrating the usefulness of press officers - has your club got one?

An afterthought.
As you can see, my formatting skills are inadequate to lay out claims in a clear way. If we think it's worth having a Records thread perhaps some who is more modern than me could devise something better.
'Every story needs a picture' so here is Jeff Marshall at the time of his 1.2. m.g. 25. I can't promise this is from the actual event, but it may well be. Incidentally, anyone still here who went on the early Hard Day in January rides may remember that Jeff demonstrated then that high speed pedalling is not something that can only be done by the young.

It would just be necessary to give a little consideration as to what would constitute a record. Here are my thoughts
Here are mine:
Standard distance open road time trials.
Any CTT recognised class of machine.
Competitors must represent LFGSS CC.Bragging rights for unlimited fixed and MG efforts are all very well, but the proper record of performances by LFGSS riders should be a set of club records, not forum records.
Results known so far are at https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/individual-result-search?club_name=lfgss

Recommendations for fast tubular. Rear wheel, 25mm wide rim.
Was running a Veloflex record. Wondering if there a better options?

I did my second 50 mile TT today on the E2/50c. The last one was on the E2/50c as well. My 50 mile PB is now nearly 3 minutes less than twice my 25 mile PB. Need to find a fast day on the E2/25.
-
• #15593
I rode today as well. 50s are brutal, especially with a block headwind for half the course.
-
• #15594
I was riding that today too. Blew up spectacularly on the way back in that headwind. First and last '50 most likely!
-
• #15595
@danstuff - did you find it a good day today? I thought it was pretty bad conditions overall. Seemed like some good times, but maybe that's just because fewer 'beginners' ride 50s.
-
• #15596
Overheard someone had done a 1.38 so must have been alright..
-
• #15597
Wind appeared to drop a bit later on, but not drastically. I guess the better guys are wind proof.
-
• #15598
It felt awful, but I think it was actually quite a fast day due to the low air pressure. I went 5 minutes dead faster than last year, so it can't have been that bad.
And @Cycliste beat our club women's record for a 50 by a hefty margin. She's now eying up the 100 record which looks eminently smashable.
-
• #15599
Yep, 1:38:30 was the fastest time I think. 30mph plus for a 50. FFS.
-
• #15600
Haha, that makes me and @eyebrows the club champs for 10 and 25.
A mate of mine raced in Tuesday too, finished in the top 20.
Well done @onyerbike, that's a great result.
The course is so twisty, it must be hard to keep a constant power. Would you mind me asking what your avg and NP were? Just curious as to what a course like that requires.
