It had to be a google account. It stopped asking me when I took the SD card out though for some weird reason.
There is a way to decrypt the memory card using the key on the phone but, looking at my phone, the folder with the key had disappeared. No idea why but I've backed it up now.
It really fucked something up though, I had a backup of the SD card on my PC from a month ago decided to cut my losses, forget the card and re-format it. I kept getting a weird error message when trying to format, which corrupted the SD card. Tried a new card, tried booting into TWRP and creating a partition there, tried formatting as exFat and FAT32 and none of that worked either. It could see it was a Samsung SD card but showed it as unsupported.
Eventually formatted it as Ext4 and the phone recognised it and allowed me to format it, no idea what the issue was.
