I got this Major Jake

along with the wheels and chainset from my old CX steed

and these bits I've been collecting

I'm going to make a kinda racey, kinda light CX bike for riding on the South Downs.

Anyone got any ideas about canti forks with a straight steerer?

Not a massive fan of the original fork this came with.

Cantis with fork mounted outer termination so I'm guessing you'd need drilled forks?

But also travel agents, so potential to run Vs?

And then a single Paul brake stiffener. For the front brake or mounting and drilling for the outer termination? Either way thats gotta cut your mud clearance down a bit.

It's a collection of potential parts. I have mini-v's on the donor bike which I really like. I also have the option of the canti's which would be mainly for looks or full on Vs with the travel agents. If I went with the full V's I'd get some XT M739's for the parallel push. Unnecessary but I think they're cool!

The Paul brake booster is a real treat, I want to use it but I know it's kinda useless for the frame. It's already hella stiff and it would just be weight and like you say, a mud magnet. Similarly I've got a Paul chainkeeper that's unused as I've run a N/W ring up front the whole time I've had the donor bike.

Forks wise I'd like something pretty plain. Might just get the stock fork painted white to match the frame. On the hunt for a straight steerer fork on ebay etc. There's a matching Easton one for me somewhere out there...

I got started on the build today but hit a snag. The mini-v's I planned to use won't work with the fork. When the brake bolt is done up fully the lugs that hold the brake pad fouls on the fork blade. I'm gonna need another fork if I want to go with the mini-v's.

Might put the old fork on it now just so I can ride, or I could go back to canti's for a while. Remind myself how poor braking can be!
