Forum TT records
I can't really agree with tommmm about no retrospective claims. Surely a lot of the interest in records comes from the way things get faster. If there's nothing to look back on, that leaves your record claim in a vacuum.
Also, there seemed to be a fair amount of interest in this idea up to the time that tommmm made his objection to past rides.
So, I'm now going to put in a modest claim, just as an example (and not, as I'm sure you will all understand, in any way wanting to show off)
Vets 100 (60-64 years age group)
Claimant .... time .... Event ...... Gear.... Event Winner
Clubman ... 4.41.09....... Ron Brown Memorial 25.6.2006 ... 90" .. Paul Holdsworth 3.51.42.But while we're on the subject, here's a much better claim - more relevant to the forum and much more recent:
25 miles Medium Gear (72")
Claimant .................. Time ............ Event ............... Event Winner (72")
Staggy (HDW)....... 57.19 ........... Lea Valley (8.4.17) ....... Gray Turnock (Lea Valley 8.4.17) 54.08.A bit of background to this ride.
Nic has posted here from time to time as 'Staggy'. He has proved himself to be a formidable performer on fixed, frequently winning hotly contested club events on fixed against strong contenders riding state of the art geared machines. He has been keen to establish a Hounslow club medium gear record for some time - we knew what it was - Jeff Marshall with 1.2.30 in about 1961 - but we had not entered it in our handbook as a record. Nic has certainly smashed that one!I think Nic was a touch unlucky to come up against Mr. Thurnock in this event, since his 54.08 is now listed as the second fastest ever m.g. 25 (fastest: Zak Carr 53.23, Harp, 12.5.2002). As far as I know neither Gray Thurnock nor the late Zak Carr are or have been forum users, so it seems reasonable for Nic to claim this record - his time is currently listed as the thirteenth fastest ever, btw.
If there is a faster forum ride, Nic would like to claim the Vets record (45-49 age group).
A final note: I've put Nic's claim here acting as The Hounslow's press officer. I hope this goes a little way to demonstrating the usefulness of press officers - has your club got one?
No way, surely the records have to start from when it's been announced, not all of these retrospective ones?
More fun that way...
