  • Someone instigated it at my work; it's a massive time wasting exercise as far as I can see. Does mean you can have some fun chats slagging people off while they're still in the process of doing/saying something stupid but I've found it extremely detrimental to workflow.

    Not sure how it would work as a social thing; isn't it just another forum/chat-room type thing?

  • Rules for Slack or Hip Chat at work:

    1. Don't say anything you wouldn't say to someone's face
    2. See #1

    Basically workplaces have retention policies and everything, including private messages, is visible to the workplace. And because staff may leave and info related to projects will be in Slack, it is all searchable and will be searched.

    Keep the bitching on WhatsApp and be professional on workplace Slack and HipChat.
