  • Frontal area looks like it is very similar

There are two parts to Cd.A :)

  • The Froome position is so far forwards that the seatpost and saddle become additional frontal area. Also, in the "safe" position, the knees and shins are wholly behind the front wheel and fork, so sit in the wash rather than encountering clean air.

Yeah yeah I know :) but now I look closer the tob tube position is lower/smaller.

update: new faster position, but probably not that practical:
    Superman position

  • Looks to me like the "Top tube safe" position will have later flow separation which causes large form drag. The flow will separate behind the rider so the "Top tube safe" position seems to have a decent advantage since the rear rider is further back. This could also be the reason why the "Pantani" position performs very well.

  • As mentioned in the Tour thread, it's most likely a Frenchman having sour grapes. FDJ's best rider was 46 secs off the pace in 46th.

Edit: quick calculations say it's about a 30w saving @30mph, getting nearer 40w for G. That seems a lot.

  • Question for those more in the know: what would make a more aero wheelset for the track? A pair of 2009 Zipp rims or a new Light Bicycle set of rims? This of course assuming the same rim height.

  • 2009 zipp 808 (probably tubular, doesn't say) are pretty good at low yaw according to zipp's own data, , slightly better than firecrest/wider rims

edit: ok, so something like 0.65watts faster at 30mph :)

  • I think there should be a big direction arrow on the shimano pro trispoke:
Pictures from tour de france prologue:

(Valve should be trailing spoke in the direction of travel, like this:?)

  • HED3/specialized 3spoke tyre sizes:

newly mounted continental gp4000s 20-622: 20mm wide at 110psi, maybe it will expand in a couple of days.

vittoria open triathlon evo 22-622: 21.5mm at 110psi both new and 2 months later.

  • Clincher version! with aluminium brake track but -> pricing is to be announced.....

  • pricing is to be announced.....

It's done cheap (no textreme, Ultegra hub), so it's not going to be £2.5k like the posh tubular, but probably over £1.5k anyway.

  • Has anyone found an alternative to NoPinz?

  • As in the retrofit pocket service? There might be someone else out there who does it, but NoPinz have the experience and excellent service. I'd say the price is worth it.

  • What don't you like about NoPinz, or what is it you're looking for that they don't offer?

  • Has anyone found an alternative to NoPinz?

Pins. I've been using them for over 30 years now, and they work fine, allowing the timekeeper to read my number easily in all weathers and from all viewing angles, which is more than can be said for semi-transparent number pockets.

  • Visibility concerns are nonsense

  • Visibility concerns are nonsense

Says somebody who rides for a team with a commercial connection with the product, and who has never acted as spotter for a timekeeper. I think I'll choose to believe independent observers, thanks. In their favour, at least NoPinz pockets are in the right place, so there's more chance of seeing them than the number on the back of some noob triathlenger, many of whom think they are going to be timed by a helicopter, apparently.

  • I've spotted riders in the Newbury 12 - dodgy number pinning was far more of an issue. Plenty of other endorsements from ECCA marshals this year to the same tune

  • Fair enough. I was hoping not to pay more than the cost of my skinsuit getting two numbers on the back but it's probably worth getting them to do it.

  • I hate pins.

  • And strangers touching my arse when I'm not in the mood for sexy times.

  • Anyone use those S-Works shoe sleeves on their Giro Empires? Fit well?

  • Maybe I'll just chop up an old pair of Velotoze...
