  • Wiggle was my go-to but they appear to have yanked platinum discount on popular products for peak season. Were £48ish, now £55.

  • If by any chance you're looking for a 28h polished one, I have one (couple '00km brake wear, polished back up) going.

  • Should have mentioned, 20/24H which nobody seems to have

  • Archetype was £55 RRP last season
Post brexit and post pound drop RRP is £66.
It's not gonna get any better ,mind you.

  • Why Archetypes? Better cheaper rims these days.

  • Thinking about rebuilding a pair of DA 7600 hubs I have onto wider rims (currently they are on Velocity Deep V).

I already have 1 Mavic A119 in the right spoke count so considering I only need to buy one to have a matching pair and that'll cost me £18 my thinking is I'm going to have to spend a fair bit more to get a pair of anything nicer.

For just general kicking about fixed use, the A119 should suffice?

  • Yep, they're decent enough rims.

  • Need to lace my 20/24 Macks to something. Find me a 20H rim with an anodised breaking surface for cheaper and I'll order away

  • Why the anodised breaking surface? If you're running brakeless you don't need the braking surface. If you're using brakes then the anodising will just wear off, and the braking will be a bit poo until it does.

  • How far off flat is acceptable on a brand new unlaced rim?

  • Still waiting for Aforce AL33 rims to come out 🙁

  • How far off flat is acceptable on a brand new unlaced rim?

Depends how stiff it is. I'd take 5mm on a 36H CX18, because it wouldn't take much to pull it straight. Something wide and heavy and with a low spoke count should be within 1mm because otherwise the spoke tension will be unacceptably uneven once the rim is straightened out.

  • Im running brakeless. Finding a 20H rim without a breaking surface is harder than finding a 20H rim with an anodised breaking surface (Archetype). Somebody sell me some 38mm deep Chinacarbon rim on the cheap plz

  • I have mounted more than 150 wheels without a sphygmomanometer I have tried but I find it useless.

I do wish there was a Gaston story about a sphygmomanometer. :)

  • Anybody interested by hubs? £15 the lot.
    -Front Deore XT 32holes
    -Rear Shimano FH3300 32holes Black
    -Rear Shimano 105 FH5500 32holes
    -Rear Sram 7.0 32holes.

  • Interested in rim recommendations for a front dynamo hub for touring. Wanting something sturdy (front rack) although figure much of the weight will be on the rear. Want black rims and be good to have disc specific. Current rims are Bontrager Duster Elite TLR but wondering if there's something that might not be so heavy (rims are apparently 550gm). Suggestions gratefully received

  • DT Swiss TK540 comes in a disc variant.

  • rims are apparently 550g

It would help if you provided some information, such as tyre size, spoke count and whether tubeless is important to you.

550g is an appropriate amount of metal to use for a touring rim. Some CTC types swear by the ~750g Rigida Sputnik, so if anything you're already at the lightweight end of the spectrum.

  • Thanks for advice...looking like going with same as I've currently got wouldn't be so stupid.

Currently running 35mm, current spoke count 28, option of tubeless would be good although not make or break

  • Dropping a DynoHub into your existing rim wouldn't be a terrible idea. If you're going to get a new rim, you might as well switch up to 32H, but the 23mm internal width of the current rim is close enough.

  • Building a wheel using a DynoHub and your existing rim

ftfy, dropping the hub into the rim could damage both the hub and the rim.

  • Im selling a pair of velocity Blunt SS's.
Front is 32h and rear 36h. In black.
Front has been built and unused and rear had light use.
    Any good ??
    Cheers

  • Why is this? Even with new spokes, should i start with a new rim?

  • He's making a (dubious) pun.
