Oh and anyone know how I'm going to attach the head badge? Looks like whatever held it on before were melted into place?

Also, advice on the paint? Love the colour it is now and I don't really want to change it, but it's peeling a little, any way I can keep that from happening and protect the frame from rust etc? Fairly new to this whole thing, any advice welcome :)

Loving that CCCP head badge. If you find my XB3 build thread there's some useful information on there about the headset and bottom bracket.

BB was re threaded at some point so a normal British Threaded BB fits fine, and I don't think I quite know what I'm doing well enough to take apart the headset just yet. Need to work out how to get the head badge attached, it's too cool to not have

You'd have to get it riveted back on which will be a hassle probably. Stick it on.

Cool looking project. I have a Russian track frame that I need to get around to doing something with. I haven't checked the bb and headset standards yet; I'm curious to see what you find with this.

Those are the old rivets.
Remove the forks and try tapping them with a strong nail or similar, they should come off the other side.
Otherwise drill them out carefully.
There's somebody on eBay selling headbadges rivets which could be tapped in. They come in 3 different sizes. They look nicer that those applied by a gun. -

Took forks off and cleaned everything out, pro tip about KHVZ that I learned today, take the forks off with the frame upside down or the ball bearings explode everywhere...
Went to pick up some wheels as well today, almost ready to ride
Before anyone says anything about the bars, the guy I picked the wheels up from offered them to me for free and I couldn't say no. Will probably end up changing them eventually but for now #TownieGoon4lyf

I lyke the barz

Bars are sick, maybe rotate them backwards slightly?

dibs bars if you pass em on ;)
but to reiterate the point by PhilDAS this was rivetted on and someone has snapped the rivets, i would just glue it in place, as i'll probably do with a current project i'm working on. (though i knocked the rivets off from inside the head tube which makes alignment a bit easier in the future as half the rivet is still on the head badge)

Went home to the family today and got a hand-me-down Selle Ittalia saddle and a seatpost, so she's all built up. A by product of that is that Mum got wind of the lack of brake drilling which she wasn't too happy about, what's the easiest way to solve that? Take it to an LBS and let them drill it, or just get a new fork? Technically I have a hand drill lying around somewhere but I feel like that's a bad idea...
Had a go with the rivets and they're fairly solidly in, looking like gluing the headbadge on is the way to go

All a bike shop will do is use a hand drill as well (with the proper metal drill bits). If you pay for a shop to do it and it messes up they'll have to pay to sort it, which is positive. As opposed to you doing it, getting it wrong and then having to worry about the expense of a new fork.
You can also get clamp on front brake mounts, not sure where, google's your friend.

Don't use a hand drill! Doubt a bike shop would, surely (hopefully?) more likely to use a drill press. I drilled mine that way. Just be sure you're going to get it right though, because the original fork is basically irreplaceable.
You can use any 1" threaded forks in these frames as long as the steerer is the right length. You'll just have to change the headset for a 1" threaded one instead of 26mm. I think I had to shim the head tube as well.

This seems far easier, although it probably wouldn't look as clean...

All built up now, lovely to ride. Feels like a wet noodle compared to the Alu track frame I've been riding for the past year or so, but very very fun
Still haven't got the headbadge sorted, Aerospace exams getting in the way of playing with bikes...

Looks rad, will look better with that headbadge for sure. I'd change the stem though, but that's a personal opinion.
Bought this off @JC_Chapi a week or two ago, was looking for a steel track bike, this thing popped up and I had to have it. Shipped from Latvia, looking forward to building it up.
So far I've picked up some Campagnolo Gran Sport 45t cranks that look vaguely right with this (please don't judge the pedals ;)), currently trying to find some rims (most likely silver) for fairly cheap.
Hopefully picking up a seatpost that fits (25.4mm is surprisingly hard to find) later this week.
Gotta love the low budget PS3 controller propping it upright
In terms of bars, is it too blasphemous to go full HHSB and get some risers? If it isn't, any good suggestions?
