  • I think if you didn't enjoy that win yesterday then cycling probably isn't the sport for you. It was fantastic.

I wouldn't read too much into the sprint for places, once they knew the win wasn't available then the intensity goes out of it.

  • Agreed. Nice to see an unfamiliar name shake things up. Even nicer to see the big names effectively say "fair play".

I really hope there's more of that kinda stuff this year. Secretly glad that Sky aren't doing great - was getting bored of long breakaways pulled back at km 20, in time for lead-out trains to decimate all competition outside big names.

  • I wonder what Sam Bennett was thinking as Pöstlberger crossed the line?

  • I bet he was extatically and sincerely happy for him.

  • And a bit jealous?

  • He was interviewed on Eurosport; he was super pleased for him and was the one on the radio shouting at him to go for it.

  • Also, anyone else breath a sigh of relief to hear Rob Hatch instead of Kirby?

  • This: he was fucking beaming when he was interviewed, it's a huge coup for Bora, and this is why:

  • Caleb Ewan was as sick as a dog though. Which is nice.

  • He needed another lead out man. Postlberger's winning gap was established when the Orica guy swang off, and there was a hesitation before anyone else took it up. When they did, it was too late.

  • Bennett could yet take a stage of his own; yesterday proved anything is possible. I hope Bora do some comedy tv spots with all the jerseys, like the whole crew cooking pasta or something.

  • such a great stage win. Cycling's all the better when unheralded riders win in unlikely ways.

  • Nah, why would he be?
Sure he'd love to win a stage. But not jealous about a teammate.

  • In the interview he said he was urging him on over the radio as Postlberger wasn't sure what to do

  • Aye that's his job. Sam could see the peloton stalling and so should let him know, so he can just bury himself.
One for all and all for one.

One of the reasons I love cycling, is the raw and honest team spirit.

  • <deal with it.gif>

  • Reminds me of a Tour stage in the late Armstrong era, on a wet stage into Nancy I think. A break has a small gap going under the kite, then on a 90 right hander with 900 metres to go, the first two riders in the break go down, leaving Bernucci of Fasso Bortolo alone in the lead. Behind the leading riders in the peloton go down too, and as the camera goes to the long shot of Bernucci, you can see Cancellara, who'd gone down in the crash, yelling into his race radio to let his team mate know he had a gap.

Bernucci won the stage by a few seconds.

  • That's quality. Good story.
And you have an impressive memory for cycling!

  • Bouhanni out of the Tour of California after a concussion. I assume their statement is the result of Google translate.
The Cofidis team would like to thank the organization of the Tour de Californie for its invitation and is calling for an understanding of its sprinter's package

  • What the fuck was the director up to, appalling long shots of the peloton rather than at the front during the sprint

  • Greipel in pink though!!

  • The gorilla takes it. The guy is fucking massive.

  • Yeh some awful camera work at the end

  • Hah, Ewan unclipped and is raging...
