Copenhagen Half is good. the NBRO run crew in Copenhagen are all fast as balls and love a drink so it's always a good trip over for either the marathon or the half.
have ran the half once and liked the course and the full was meant to be my 3rd marathon in 6 weeks in 2015 but my chest infection won so I ended up just cheering instead.

4 weeks to EfM. Recceing the longest road stretch of my likely route today, 20+ miles, Kidsgrove to Altrincham.
My route isn't very efficient at 36 per 30 so 20% detour. A good route would be 10% detour, which would mean upto 3hrs saved by my rough maths. Maybe a revision for November event.
Anyway, if I get to Mcr this time it's a great result. Beyond that it'll start to get lumpy.

I'm setting an alarm for the attempt tomorrow. Not sure what I want to see but whatever happens I want to see it.

Enioy SS, guessing low expectations at long fun event better than structured target at shorter event for you? Hope it sets up the next steps well.
Thanks, just formally entered. 10 weeks to go!
targeting something shorter just wouldn't have the same motivating effect for me as I know if push come to shove I could probably force myself around a half tomorrow (at the slowest pace ever) if i had to and I'm so far from my pb times that there's little to encourage me to throw myself into training for a 5/10k 'just' to run a disappointing time.
I'm still going to aim to do plenty of shorter events as part of training but they're the wrong sort of carrot on a stick to get me into my running shoes and out of the door right now.
I've started making a weight loss and training plan yesterday to gauge roughly how much I can get done in the time and where I'll be weight wise if i can stick with it. Going to do a lot of walking miles as well as running as i think time on my feet is going to be the biggest factor in an event like this.

I'm hoping the key point will come about 1 hour 15 in. Not sure I can face the really really early start that watching the whole thing involves.
-
• #15484
I think it'll be pretty clear pretty quick if they're on for it or not - there's basically no margin for error so if they fall off pace that's it done.
-

but surely given their pedigree it's only a struggle for them to maintain the pace over the longer distance, if they miss the pacing early that would be a huge embarrassment to the project.
-
• #15486
I reckon they'll be about on pace through to 18-20 but then Kipchoge will be out on his own and will fail.
Missing the pacing early would be hilarious.

Aren't they going to rotate pacemakers, i.e. they'll get someone to pace a couple of laps, then someone else takes over, through to the end?
-
• #15488
Consistent pacing at just below 4:35/mile is tricky.
Bloody hell. 14:13 for each 5k.

Which suggests pacemakers will be rotated.
-

Doesn't matter if the pacemakers are rotating when the actual sub 2 trio can't stay with them.
It's going to be psychologically difficult to try and run your half marathon pb (59:25) twice. I bet he didn't end that thinking he wished he could do it all over again.

Agreed, however as Greenbank said below.
At that kind of pace, missing a mile split by a couple of seconds is massive. I know they're running behind a car and that, but still.

You could use them to set a benchmark then track progress bsck to your faster times?
time on feet
Yup, that and the ability to eat & drink enough of the right things at the right time to keep going.

My long road stretch is getting shortened in favour of longer slower footpaths.
I'd rather be trampled to death by an angry herd of cows than hit by a car after several near misses today with oncoming drivers who couldn't cope with the situation. Concerning enough to make me leave my planned route and get lost on badly marked / closed footpaths today, mucho type 2 fun, best learned today rather than after 60+ miles on 3rd June.

This x lots! Won't be tuning in, although think it'd be quite interesting to watch if they get behind there's little hope of them managing to claw it back.

Slightly slow first 5K, picking it up now.
-
• #15496
And by slightly slow I mean 14:14 instead of 14:10...
-
• #15497
Desisa and Tadese already fallen off at half way.
-
• #15498
i've watched five minutes and these commentators are already annoying me.

They had Paula earlier, she was good, and Sal is ok. Had to go and make a cuppa last time Kevin Hart came on.
I think he's got this you know.

I say that and it starts going a bit wonky.
Looks like an attempt at the two hour marathon this weekend.
