Ron Cooper for sale

Posted on
  • I'm selling some of my bikes as I don't ride so much nowadays.I've got a nice Ron Cooper. Ron made it for me in 1984,and I did a bit of racing on it, then used it for leisure riding. It's as I assembled it originally, with Campag equipment and Cinelli bars and stem.It was last resprayed by Colourtech about 10 years ago. With the long horizontal rear dropouts I suppose it would make a good fixie, but I don't really want to split the bike up.I have got quite a few road components I also want to clearout, I might try and post them. 80's Campag record brakes like the ones on the Cooper,a couple of triple chainsets one Campag one Shimano,a pair of Mafac 2000 centrepull brakes( very powerful, used on tandems a lot).

  • Interested pending price and size... looks large!

  • Thats a loverly bicycle what size is it ?

  • 25 inch Ian

  • Very nice Les! Coopers are much admired here.

I'm not buying, but others will want to know the price and if you can be more specific about the parts, tubing and size (seat and top tube in cm), that will help a lot.

And if you're not prepared to ship it, then an idea of where collection would be from.

  • Hi Scilly,

Glad you like the bike, I didn't have it made as an out & out racer,it has mudguard clearances and rides comfortably. Would be ok for London roads. Frame measures 63cm from centre of bottom bracket to top of seat tube, and 57 cms from centre of seat tube to centre of headset tube. It's made from Columbus slx tubing.I'm thinking it's worth about £450ish, but I don't know what the market's like for these.Do you think I should post again with these details,or will people follow our messages? All the best, Les.

  • I forgot- I'm in Norfolk now, but I have a sister I visit in Shenfield, Essex. If anyone in the London area is interested I could arrange a date and bring it to Shenfield.

  • Bargain!

  • It is a 25" frame, McCamb do you think it's worth £450? I haven't been looking to sell any bikes for a while. I only seem able to upload one photo at a time,so here's another. Does anyone know why i can't upload more ?

  • Don't worry Les: everyone can see our posts.

I'm no authority, but £450 sounds like a good price to me!

  • More details about the parts on the bike(all bought in the eighties). Campag Record chainset 52/42 170 mm cranks.Record pedals & campag alloy toeclips.Hubs are Record large flange on Mavic MA2 rims, 32 spokes front,36 rear. Front mech Record, rear 980. Bottom bracket campag bars& stem Cinelli brakes Campag Record seatpin I think 90's Chorus I like the taper, but I have an 80's two bolt Record if anyone would prefer.

  • As for photos, there's a limit to the size that can be uploaded.

Alternatively, if you use something like Flickr, Photobucket or Dropbox, you can link to them on here.

  • Im sure it's worth that, think it's on the large side for me though. Good luck with the sale.

People will follow the thread to find out more info, but you can always edit your first comment to add more information.

Pictures need to be under 3mb to upload successfully.

  • I do want to sell this bike, so I'm dropping the asking price to £350.Anyone interested?

  • Have a bump for being a great trader.

  • Thanks.

  • It's a great price for a nice frame and mostly Record group. Maybe try Retrobike if you have no luck here.

  • as the other guys have said, great bike and even better price. Its a bargain at £350.

  • Hi Guys,

I've had second thoughts on how I should sell this bike, and have decided to split it up,and sell the frame and the components separately.I'll get to work taking the bike apart soon, and photograph and list everything,so keep a lookout for my post. Cheers,Les.

  • ^Heartbreaking.

  • Hi Les, presume you sold your 25" red Cooper (looked nice) as a bike or split up, frame and parts. If you have any more road bikes for sale of late 70's or 80's vintage, let me know as I am interested. I also raced in the 70's on a Dave Russell road bike. Many thanks
