The Straggler has a few more useful places to bolt stuff on to than the cross check. Like the eyelets on the front as well as the back of the fork dropouts - makes it easier to get a front rack + guards on I guess.

I'm almost trying to make my Genesis weigh as much as possible. Like a reverse weight weenie. Metal mudguards, double racks, tube-mounted pump. Much functional.

I'd never had a 'utility' bike before my straggler so It took me a while to embrace the kgs. After cycling with my daughter on the back pretty much anything feels weight weenie

It makes your road bike feel like a feather.

WUT?!? I don't want heavy as a baseline...
I want a geared bike for work. Day to day. General stuff. Winter hack. And tourer. So needs thicker tyres. Mudguards. And if needed the racks...
But yes... They're all much of a muchness. Unless I'm missing something massively glaringly obvious?

Yes, and my road bike is 10kg :-)

Hand over all of your money to Talbot?
Now that my lht has shed its racks and guards it's actually a fun little mtb with 41c knards, it's not that heavy despite the beefy rims and dynamo. It gets air for days off speed bumps now..
The straggler didn't exist when I got my lht but if I had the choice I'd go straggler every time for my needs. -

You should go on holiday with Tom and Rosie!

Ha! I could never afford anything touched by dammit. Ill stick to OTP.
I think the straggler is high on my list now. I still like that Kona.

+1 for kaffenback, or maybe the cnc-bike frame that @psee & @Thrust are working on projects with. https://www.cnc-bike.de/product_info.php?products_id=16541

That CNC frame is really nice! although 35c is a bit on the low side..

I'd also take a look at the pinnacle arkose. I absolutely love mine.
Though not as much as my Talbot.

Pinnacle Arkose, actually an excellent bike espeically the latest 2017 model that have seen some revision.
Got flat mount brakes, thru axles on the front, carbon fork, alu frame, geometry is fairly relaxed but not heavy, massive clearance, etc.
Even the Arkose 2 with 10 speed Tiagra and full hydraulic is a pretty great deal for the money.

heres another
Cinelli HoBootleg Touring Bike

You're happy to pay over a grand for that instead of a full hydraulic disc bicycle with carbon fork and whatnot?
-
• #15343
Totally different bikes
-
• #15344
Not entirely true, no reason why the Arkose can't be a tourer, it even got a 48/32 chainset.
-
• #15346
My mate's even got 1.95" tires on his 2015 arkose with a Crux fork.

Slight derail here. what size blackburn bag is that? I've been looking at them, they look good.

B0N0R's is pretty cool
my kaffenback is heavy as all hell. but it does have racks front and rear and tbh it ain't about the weight with these kind of rigs.
you could always try working out if you need to work on your guns.
