I'm ok with a partially external cable routing.
The only issue with having no holes at all is you will have to run the L to R e-wire under your stem, would look a touch shit.
Also from the images in the RS910 manual, i think Shimano expect you to run the L to RS910 wire along the outside of the bar, then drill a small hole in order to enter the bar near the bar end plug -

Because I'm not sure the R785 has 3-ports. That might be a DA update.
This says one: http://handsonbike.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/introduction-to-shimano-road-hydraulic.html

You've clearly not seen my bikes.

oh ok the photos do seem to confirm that.
My reason for doubting was that i'd seen the 'DA Only' stuff on weightweenies and other places, but my 6870 shifter seems to have 3 ports and I don't know why they wouldn't be functional. I would have preferred to use 3 separate wires rather than the Y Cable personally so it annoyed me.

R785 is single port.

I really don't get why shimano did that.. you can even swap out the internals of above shown shifter to make an R785 3 port..

It's annoying, I'd like to use the sprint shifters with mine, but hey-ho.

Balls. Oh well.

So they've made them upgradeable?
Perhaps they hadn't finalised the design of the DA 3-port when the 785s were released.
I guess if you can't be the shifters it's not likely I can buy the internals. -

Anyone ever had a faulty internal Di2 junction box? Seems like one of the female connector ports has stopped working.

Money saving? Space constraints for hydro would be a reason, if it wasn't for the fact they appear to be the same size.

I don't know man.. money saving on €400,- shifters seems a bit strange. Weird Japanese people I guess ;)

Seems odd to even bother making a single port one if the triple port is the same size.

Any thoughts on here as to whether it is worthwhile / necessary getting di2 specific bars & stem?
Cockpit is the last thing I have to buy for my build and I am fitting the ultegra di2 hydraulic set. I can see there are some bars offered up as di2 specific and one or two stems (the Pro Vibe one in particular) that accept the junction box, but is it worth getting them or will normal finishing kit be fine?
Will also need a junction box mount of some kind, weirdly I don't have one.

Any of you eTap lot using blips on road bars?
I've installed some recently on the tops for easy climbing gear changes, but not hugely impressed. They seem to require a bit of effort to press and I'm not sure I've got them in quite the right position yet.
Has anyone got a set up I can look at?

@andyfallsoff
not worth while if you're happy with junction box hanging in standard spot below stem/garmin. Did your set not come with the stem clip and some small zip ties?
Any normal bar whether it has cable routing or not will do the job just fine. -

Thanks - thought that might be the case. I don't have the stem clip and cable ties, though, as it was bought second hand.
I wasn't sure if the internal mounted junction box was making life more difficult anyway, as don't I need access to the box to charge the battery (I've got the seatpost mounted one)?

Necessary, no.
Worthwhile, not really but I was still going to do it. -

You can use the EW-RS910 bar-end junction instead of the usual SM-EW90-A 3-port junction.

Maybe necessary wasn't the right word - the whole bike is unnecessary.
Out of interest, which set-up were you going for?
-
• #2323
Cheers - makes sense, although it would be another c.£100 part I could live without - not sure if vanity is that important or not.
-
• #2324
A lot cheaper just to get the clip, bodge one up or buy a high end one that clips to your garmin mount than that EW-RS910 though. its nice but comparatively very pricey.

I wanted Pro Vibe bar & stem + DA Di2 hydro + EW-RS910 bar-end junction
Excessive £££ for little benefit that I can justify to myself because my whole life revolves around cycling. Most of it is not available though so I've saved some money.
Truthfully i don't know, but why would they put 3 ports on each lever if you can't do this?
Take a punt? Worth it.
