So basically an entry-mid level CX bike with flat bars? Would your wife consider drop bars with a slack-ish geometry?
-

Yep pretty much what you say. I don't think she'd be bothered about drops, she'd not use them and see them as superfluous to her cycling needs.
Cheers!

Might be worth popping into CycleLab in Shoreditch? They defo used to have one and it wasn't getting much use then. Worth an ask.

My first "proper" bike was a Surly Cross-check. It really does do it all. Lots of ability to attach rack, mudguards, etc for commuting and touring. Plenty of space for big, comfy tyres. The frame shape means it's really easy to sling over your shoulder to carry it up the stairs (I find it much easier to carry my cross-check up 4 flights of stairs than lighter bikes which I can't get over my shoulder easily).
I think you can get them with flat bars, but drops are more versatile.

My girlfriend has a Specialised Vita and likes it. The few times I've ridden it it seems nice and more towards the sporty end of hybrid (I think it's the women's version of the Sirrus pretty much). There are a range of about half a dozen of them going from the base model at about £400-£500 through to carbon fibre at £1,500 so you can probably get one at the right price point.
Although I wouldn't rule out the Sirrus either, geometry is slightly different, she won't know till she rides them what fits better.

Thought people here might know a bit about inner soles and suggestions on where to buy.
I'm looking for some inner soles for my motorbike boots as 1) they are rubbish, 2) I feel like need more arch support.
My specialized cycle shoes have one 1.5mm varus shim at the front and bodygeometry insoles if that's any help.
I don't want too much space to be eaten and I don't really need extra/lots of cushioning. Unlike cycling my feet are fairly static, but they are used and sit in roughly the same place.
Any suggestions on where to buy online? Or are there places that would fit the right ones cheap?
Cheers.

Hello,
today I was cruising home on my Wolverine, and something felt off. Took hands of bars to fish something out of pocket and suddenly had the wheel go into a wobble that seemed to get increasingly worse until I put hands back on.
Any reason / remedy for this?

Loose headset?

Loaded rear rack?

Wheel not straight in the dropout? Though you'd probably notice brake rub first.

I checked wheel, all fine. Rear rack not loaded. So I guess I get bike shop to check headset.

I had this happen a few weeks ago, but only when I was fetching something from rear jersey pockets while descending so a lot of my weight was over the rear wheel. I had (over?)tightened my (threaded) headset prior to the ride, so maybe that had something to do with it too?

Have had this to various degrees on my Raleigh. Seems to be dependent on load and tyre pressure, to do with the fork trail as best I can tell. Some roads are worse for it than others. You can stop it by bracing the top tube with your leg while you faff around for the banana in your back pocket.
I think Scobles said needle bearing headsets help.

Any suggestions on what glue to use to stick a mobile phone case to a garmin quarter turn mount (both plastic) which will cope with the riding around and also the shearing of spinning 90 degrees to take it on/off? Cheers

I think most of those super doublesided sticky tapes will work.
Assuming the phone case is hard plastic I'd try and find tape that has a foam sandwich to it to help with the vibrations - like the gopro sticky mounts.

Glue? umadbro?
Nail gun or nothing.

Shouldn't the appropriate nerdy bike forum solution be to machine a piece alu of to make a custom phone case that mates to your 'tester stem cap?

CNC music factory...
I planned to use superglue on my quadlock but then saw they had a newer version out that was bigger so just bought one of those.

Is the double sided stuff that sticky? I can't say I've used that kind of thing since the days of Blue Peter. I was thinking of a lump of araldite maybe.
