Hi everyone!
Butlins or bust (well, actually the off-road epic) will be back some time in May this year. We'll be heading south but to a different town. The route might be a bit harder, but still just a big day out. Keep your eyes on the Sunday Echappee Insta for the announcements for dates for this and all the other "Epics"

Might have a crack at this, if I'm about.

It was easy last time

Last year's reports are rather daunting. Especially knowing that you, Dan and Zooey are all stronger riders than me :-)

I didn't come anywhere close to finishing, so I'm no benchmark. But by all accounts a MTB, tubeless and plenty of light will have you laughing (or maybe just sitting quietly while checking train times) on bench at the sea side.

Hmm, this might mean learning to use my phone...

Would like to do this, even though it sounded horrendous.

It was beautiful - just requires endurance! Bit easier than SDW but not far off if you need a comparison. Full sus (or any sus for that matter) not required.
But gears. Definitely bring gears.

I'm not terribly keen to repeat even my short SSSDW experience

Im fitting a 46t cassette to my gravel bike

Don't listen to everyone who says you need an MTB - not at all true. Easy gears will help though.

Dates have been set. The re-run (ish) of this one would be the final one in May. Others are of course also super fun. Feel free to share as you like!

Sad I missed this last year - in.

Yeah it's all organised. Best bet it to keep the date free and then keep an eye on the club Instagram. We don't release the route until the day before

Hillier gravelly one and really stupid muddy one - how much climbing can we expect?
-
• #147
Last year's South Epic was about 2,600m climbing, and most of that off road.
-
• #148
Stupid Muddy is 3000+m
-
• #149
Might have to settle for flatter gravelly one in that case. I'd have gone for the hillier gravelly if it were ~1500

The joy of the South Epic is that you're fucking about in the lanes of Kent, so there are plenty of get out of jail free points where you can just blast one of the normal routes back into town. Goes through Westerham at 100k, for example
great route, a really fun day out, thanks so much for organising @jammy !
