  • Anyone done Liverpool Marathon?

  • Does http://www.runbritainrankings.com ever work? It always seems down.

  • Great run. Were you solo or was there a decent group to run with?

  • Power of 10 instead?

  • @HatBeard, @rhb, @Spares thanks!

@juanito It was ok for the first seven, as we had the half marathon runners with us. After that it was pretty sparse, I was floating between 11th and 14th but for a period from 18 onwards I had noone to run off. Before that I was having a good race with the two women's leaders and their marshall bikes which kept me going.

  • Hi all,
    I'm trying to run 30k pretty soon after I did all the correct steps (5k, 18min. 10k, 39min. 21km, 1H04).

I'm struggling to find what to eat to be "light" and not hit the wall. I often morning run without eating before but not more than 45minutes. I like to be clean and energised and I find that when I eat I'm really heavy and have sometimes bloating. Any advices ?
Thanks. My goal is marathon on road and then Ultramarathon off-r.

  • Also did the Hackney Half on the weekend, great crowds and weather - no training and managed 1:52.12 - my knees are killing me! Stratford was a total fucker! Thought that was never going to end...!

  • I did the old one years ago which was a different organisation, started in Birkenhead and went through the tunnel which was bleak and endless laps of Sefton Park.

I've not done the new one although I'm doing the half [for the second time] on the same day, I pb'd it last time but annoyingly they've now changed the course and put in another hill. In the full Marathon there are a few hills in there, havent done the first part of the course where it heads out to the north side, there is a short steep hill at Upper Parliament street when it heads back out of town and there is another at about 18/19 miles is about 0.5mile but STEEP [especially at that point], flat run back in along the river which is fine although can be a bit windy if it's blowing in the wrong way.

  • The olympic park bit sucks. the double back just after the run dem cheer zone is horrible.

  • You're currently doing a 1:04 half mara!!?

  • Gotta be 1.24
1.04 half with an opening 39min 10k would be some weird pacing (and a world record 11k finish)

  • Do you mean before or during run?

  • @chalfie - get some hill rep sessions in as well. horrible to do, but they'll get you nice and strong!

  • Isn't running longer at speed better than running harder for short distances?

  • A wholemeal pitta bread (toasted) stuffed with a whole tin of tuna. Add lettuce/spring onions and salad cream to taste. That got me through a 10 mile run in fine fettle.

  • What do the hills of south London qualify as?
    Moderate?
    Severe?
    Not that bad?

These are my local go to slopes.

  • college road looks like the one. sod Hell Hill!

this is one of the ones I sometimes do when I'm running near my office

I have tried for the CR but come up well short

  • Doing reps between Canobie Hill, Westwood Park and One Tree hill is pure thug medicine.

  • Do you do ringmore rise?

  • Yeah, throw that in too. That whole area is a great way of doing reps without having to go up and down the same hill.

  • Oh thanks you.
    Seems nice indeed ! :)

  • On the verge of signing up to run Spitfire Scramble 24hr solo in july (10 weeks on sat), last run I did was in december (but have been cycling this year instead).

    I'm going to die.

(actual plan is just to use it as a big stick to whip myself back into shape and if i only manage 5 laps then so be it).

  • Why? Why not enter some of the Battersea Park 5 and 10ks this summer as a more realistic target?

    I'm still injured. It's crap.

  • it's probably the most enjoyable race of the year for me and it's an open ended challenge so I can do as much or as little within the time limit as I want while it still being demanding. in a weird way it's less demanding doing it solo as I can set my own pace without worrying about my team waiting for me to finish the lap so someone else can run. trying to persuade my teammate from last year to also run solo so we can run together more this time rather than taking turns.

I've also signed up for copenhagen half in sept (19 weeks away) and entered brighton marathon in april so want to get serious again so I can ready to hit marathon training properly in december as I keep half-assing my return to running and after my tangle with depression last year it sucks not having it as an outlet when shit gets a bit too heavy.
