Can anyone recommend me a book on the history of the USA/North America? I'd like it to be short and accurate.

The Peoples History of the United States - Howard Zinn - sorry that is a 3 months late reply to the question about a short history of the US.

Thanks, I ended up reading 'American History: A Very Short Introduction'. It did the job although it was so short (less than 200 pages) that it ended up being a bit of a whistle stop tour.

that Zinn book at 700+ pages may have to wait to be read.
