  • I had no idea they had so many fans out there! I thought they were just a two-bit garage surf band that broke up years ago... :)

  • TBF I think Ben and I might form their core fanbase.

  • That is lovely. Bold move for an instrumental surf band to cover Beach Boys too, people in the surf scene can be super snobbish about 'em for some reason.

  • Found one, may have to shift a couple of guitars I'm not playing to justify it... Gonna go and try it on Thursday... :)

1966 reissue in Olympic White with a Rosewood fingerboard. Classic offset fender tones with a couple of upgrades:
-Seymour Duncan quarter pound bridge pickup (hot output that still sounds like a jag)
    -Mustang bridge and Buzz stop
-All capacitors upgraded to paper in oil or silver mica NOS caps
-Out of phase wiring when pickups are combined
Good condition, small cosmetic scratches here and there. Padded gig bag included
$950 Neg (not keen on trades though)

  • Turns out the guy selling the Jag is rehearsing at my mate's studio tomorrow... And so are we! Deal could be done inside 24hrs...

Selling my 2011 Melody Maker to a bandmate for cheaps to pay for half of the Jag, may not need to sell the Wilshire now... :)

Super excited, I've wanted a white Jag since I started playing at 16... Then they became indie kid guitars and I got totally turned off...

  • In other Brisbane guitar related news... The first Tym 20th anniversary guitar prototype is here, super interesting build...

    So ...
    Here it is.
The prototype of the idea for the new series of TMI guitars.
This is a hollow frame and spine with internal bracing with a composite aluminium/polyethylene front and back.
This design gives amazing strength and resonance while being very light.
This has two custom made Brierley vintage P-90's and an aluminium scratchplate (pickguard for those playing overseas). This is also using my new vibratos which are available in different shapes for different guitars.
I only went with an offset as we already had the shape in the CNC but I'm currently getting my designs and models drawn up to cut and assemble like this.
The "frame" can be cut from almost any material and painted any colour and the composite board comes in many colour options to match, or compliment the frame colour.
I will have this prototype in the shop for people to try out while I get another couple of ideas going.
Once I have bodies cut, and Mick makes me more pickups I will start assembling and have some for sale in the shop.
Im not taking orders and I will do a blog on the process of these (and the hollow timber ones from a week ago) and have more details and prices then.
I'm making some guitars for my 20th anniversary but if there's demand, and I have time I will keep offering more shapes and options.

  • semi-wood finish tho...

    #fnar

  • Yeah, I don't like that either but he's left it like that to show the construction, the frame can be painted too... It means they'll require very little finishing as the frame is CNC'd and can then be assembled really quickly... It's an interesting take on guitar building, I'm a mad traditionalist when it come to my planks but I like what he's doing...

  • Weird. Kind of cool though. I'm becoming much less of a purist in my old age. Find myself thinking I could get on with loads more weird and wonderful things these days.

Dude, that Mustang jag is sweet. Hope you snag it.

  • Anyone interested in general muso nonsense (*raises hand) there's a new Tape Op podcast out which is just Larry Crane amiably chatting with people. It's ok. I like Larry.

There's also this cringey named thing which is just starting its second series. http://www.stevedawson.ca/makersandshakerspodcast/ The guy is quite annoying (as well as having an absurdly exaggerated hoser accent) but he has GREAT people on (Marc Ribot, David Hood, Norman Blake, Duanne Eddy) and he's actually a really good interviewer.

The one with Steve Berlin of the Blasters and Los Lobos is fucking great. recommend.

  • All Jagged up!!!! :D

  • Looks great man. Haven't you finished unpacking yet?

  • Ha! I unpacked three boxes of LPs and put them next to the stereo downstairs, came back from work a day or two later and Lori had washed the floors and moved them into my 'office' upstairs... That's where they've been ever since... :)

It's a bloody heavy guitar, a lot heavier than I thought it would be... The tones are great tho', I don't have another guitar that sounds like it so I'm well happy... Really quacky but you can still pick out individual notes when the fuzzbomb gets engaged... Love it...

I think I want a Jazzmaster now... Also played a lovely MIM Esquire at Tym's today that I may buy if I can get rid of my Epi Wilshire Pro... Black, one pickup, lovely...

  • still disappoint you never got that flying V.

  • I'm an indiefag now, no V...

  • you're just a less hairy j mascis. mrak would approve.

  • We had a band meeting today (new band), spent the whole time talking about house prices... #pleasekillme

  • Haha. It comes to us all. Well. Most of us. Not you obviously Joe.

I finally got the home studio set up yesterday. Will upload a pic later. Got the big Celestions up on shelves and have used hi-fi amps as speaker stands for the nearfield monitors.

The missus was away last night so I managed to squeeze in some recording between the eating of meats, drinking of wines, smoking of rollies. Pretty happy with the results too. Of the recording I mean. The meat/wine/fags bit was a roaring success too. Obviously.

The new track features BQ's old Danelectro shortscale bass which I set up last week. It just needed a truss rod tweak and the bridge lowering a bit. It intonates properly now and is playing like a dream. Still sounds thuddy and fat. Dig.

  • Looking good! I recorded a tune on the couch in the living room today; MBPro, iRigHD, lead, Jaguar, Dano Longhorn, SM58, so much fun!!!

  • Recently had the itch to get back into playing again after selling all my gear after uni. Been lurking on this thread and other sites admiring all the gear (nice Jag btw!) so finally pulled the trigger and got this Squier Strat and Blackstar fly amp. Was a tele guy in the past but saw this and loved it. Cant wait to start annoying the neighbours!
