My terra nova laser comp 1 had a pretty hard life and did a good job. Must have done 100 nights in it. I picked it up on ebay for a good price.

Yup, seems to be the sweet spot between reliability and price. Mind if I ask what you combined with bag and mat wise?

I now use a neo air x-lite, so good. And a mountain hardware phantom 0. But I'd get a PHD bag if I were doing it again, but mine was a bargain.
The only downside with the laser is you need to know how ot pitch it, takes a bit of practice. And because it's pitched quite taught, the connecting cables on the inside shell to the outside shell are pulled tight. Mine have pulled at their anchoring seams in the inner in 2 places, but never more than just a little.

I'm looking for a freestanding 2-person tent around 1.5kg. Don't want to spend more than £200ish. Are there any good options?

anyone have any experience with the alpkit tents?
thinking about this: https://www.alpkit.com/products/ordos-3
it's slightly roomier than the terra nova laser comp 2 and about the same in price

how has your hoolie held up? double wall for rain sounds handy. I'm thinking about the hoolie 3, super roomy and the same weight as the cobra. i feel like it might be the right compromise for price (you can get the hoolie 3 for about £130).

Yeah good tent. Not light lightest but been rugged and no issue. Would recommend them for the price.
Useful in the rain indeed. Rain a lot in Norway and could pack it up separately. -

Lightweight peg recommendations? Are ti pegs worth the expense? I'm pretty confident I want to tour with my Zypheros 3 living this summer to make it comfortable as possible for me and partne, it requires about 20 pegs. For car car camping I usually just use heavy duty pegs but something a bit more svelte might help stop the weight creeping up (it's a 4kg+ tent anyway).

Problem I've found with ti pegs is slippage; they're very thin and don't seem to "grip" the ground as well. I guess it depends what ground you're camping on, my experience has been with gravel and turf.

I found this too.
I've always just used alpkit alu pegs. My terra nova super thin ti ones were useless. Just use proper pegs imo.

I am quite happy with the standard ones on the MSR hubba hubba
Also, for a 4kg+ tent I can't seem to justify the cost of titanium upgrade. IMHO

That's what I was having trouble with, although I could use them on the small tent also. Ali pegs it is then.

Had issues with Terra-Nova carbon pegs on soft marshy ground.
Ended up with Alpkit Y pegs, and some XL Y pegs, tend to mix and match nowdays.
I use the XL for the 4 main pegging points and the shorter/normal ones for everything else, this is better than whittling new pegs from driftwood because the wind caught the tent and lifted it and the carbons pegs just kinda get sucked under soft ground never to be seen again.

I have bought the Nature Hike Cloud Up 3 recently. I have only slept two nights in it so far, but for the price I am very very pleased.

where did you purchase it from?
seem to be sold out everywhere...

Aliexpress is the place to go.
This looks to be the cheapest at the mo. Around £80 for the slightly heavier version. £120 for the ultralight in grey.
I've got the two man. Love it, but some have commented on durability. So far, no issues with mine, although its never been tested in mega weather.

which one do you have? trying to figure out what the actual difference between the grey and the green are. they are meant to be made by different materials, but does that mean one is more waterproof than the other?
and are there import duties with ali expresss?

I went grey. It's just a lighter material. Saves you about 300g by the looks of things. Think I got my two man for about £75 in the grey last year. Not sure it's worth it on the bigger three man as you should have someone to share the load with if you're using that.
The two man is a perfect one man tent in my book. Plenty of space for your stuff, but you wouldn't really want to squeeze two of you in if you want any kind of comfort. I imagine the three man is a good two man kind of size.
Also, never had to pay import duty on aliexpress, but this is probably the most expensive thing I've bought (£75). Think they mark the value down on the package to that of a cheap tent so you get away it normally. I cannot guarantee this though!

Cheers thanks for the info. What kind of weather have you been out in?
Yeah I'd want to go 3 man as I'll probably have a travel buddy. How grey is the grey? It looks white-ish, I'm worried it will show dirt too easily. But the green is also 40 quid cheaper!

He got his from Amazon

Bit of drizzle is probably the maximum. It feels decently put together though, and for the money, nothing out there could rival it for weight.
There some hacks to improve the strength of the poles by the central three way joint. I just popped some gorilla tape around in an effort to make sure they don't split if the wind gets up. A minor preventative measure i'd probably do on any lightweight tent tbh. -

In descending order of flashness. All of these get good reports here on this thread.
I just pulled the trigs on the Coleman 2person. I especially like the Alu poles. Carbon poles are fucking horrible, keep getting into trouble with them splitting, and then ending up with scary shards in my fingers. Nanofibers = do not want.
It'll be the tent for a cycle tour for two, or my lad's keeper roomy one-man tent for some long standing camps coming up.
