Concorde Squadra 1990, Campagnolo build

Posted on
  • I think the time has come to do up my  lovely 1990 Concorde Squadra. A frame more Italian than Mario Cippolini throwing a tantrum about subpar espresso in a Neopolitan cafe.

While Concorde are a Dutch marque, this is one of their frames contracted out to Italy to be made by Ciocc, a firm that continues to divide opinion about exactly how its name should be pronounced.

The frame is made out of Columbus tubing and has an Italian flag on the top tube to really hammer home where it was made.

I bought this as a complete bike in 2014 from a user of this parish. I love Concorde frames and having owned this for several years I can confidently say it's the nicest steel frame I've ridden. Treads the stiff/comfortable line well and is a delight to throw around.

The bike originally had a full Shimano Tricolore  600 8-speed groupset, but some components were showing its age and I felt it was time to upgrade to the Campagnolo an Italian steel frame deserves.

Of particular interest on this frame is the hanger for your race number (!), lovely chroming, nice fork shoulders with beautiful bird etching, campag dropouts and aforementioned Italian flag on the top tube.

The frame and forks weigh 2.75kg.

The plan is to do a tasteful neo retro conversion and end up with a sexy bike suitable for club runs and general trips out of the smoke and out into the lanes.

Sorry the pics aren't too sharp, I took them this weekend and they looked better on my phone.

  • The frame is in generally good condition, but it does have some pitting to the chrome.

    Autosol to the rescue.

  • They are - and often with interesting paintjobs too. Walked past this Astore recently when I was walking home. I think it's a budget Concorde with cro-mo tubing but I am a fan of the design.

  • Nice frame!
Just got myself a Concorde Squadra too. NOS 650c Columbus EL with the Italian flag on TT.
Looking forward to your neo-retro build.
