• Never understood the appeal or rational behind buying something thats Cat C Or D and fixing it as a means to save a little bit of money. The car will always have that category attached tot it and the sigma that comes with it. Plus there is always hidden costs that you end up spending and all you end up with is (in my experience) is something that falls short for roughly the same cost as a proper car.

    The only caveat to this is if it's rare enough that you struggle to find a replacement. Usually in that case it doesn't get written off though...

  • If you plan on heavily modifying it, or else if you're able to do the work yourself and plan on running it into the ground I think it makes sense.

    With motorbikes it often makes a lot of sense as often it's body work related and they seem to become insurance write-offs very easily. Plus people often want to modify them. The difference with cars is that there are so many cheap ones anyway.
