I bought a Vittoria Margherita cassette off Mark Stevens recently. I'm quickly learning that the vintage cycling collectors world is actually quite small :)
Are both the new chainstays going to be pencil thin?!? -

Yes I saw that, its an impressive collection you have. Which bike is it for?
The new chain-stays are pencil thin, 10.5mm at their narrowest point.
I just need a Chater Chain-set now, (and a Lytaloy Chainset) I had intended to use the BSA 5 pin Chain-set i already had but the rest of the drive chain is 3/32 and as far as im aware BSA didnt make a compatible 3/32 chainring. -

Looking forward to this. Another great looking project that I seem to have missed last time round.

Its finally arrived..!
I'm a little apprehensive if I'm honest.

You tease, crack it open!

The colour is gorgeous
-
• #35
Well I only see a greyscale placeholder :)

The colour and lug lining look superb. How do the chainstays look?
-
• #37
Im very happy with it, though stupidly i was assuming they would automatically add the outer fluting for chainring clearance similar to the chain stay they were replacing but they haven't..!

I can see these pictures and it looks lovely indeed! I still can't see the earlier ones.

Do the crank arms hit the stays?
-
• #40
Thankfully no, not with my BSA cranks but its tight.
I will replace these with a Chater lea set when i find one and I suspect this will leave even less of a gap.
I have built it up as a single speed for now until a 3/32 chain set presents itself.

I was using this as my guide from Mark Stevens collection a 1948 Spear point.
)
The Lytaloy headset.
BSA 1/8th chain set replaced with newly aquired 3/32 46t Chater lea Chain set.
Derailleur fitted, not from 1948 i know but I like there simplicity.
Note the Regina 4 speed cassette and the Gillott frame number is still visible through the paint. No.948654.
So I think I'm done, apart from adjusting the seat, I'm pretty happy with it.
So to re-cap, last year I sent my frame to Colour tech to get the off side chain stay replaced with a new Pencil thin chain stay.
The job was done well but the new chain-stay was anything but pencil thin. I thought i could live with it, but it turns out i couldn't so the frame is now at Argos Cycles having both chain-stays replaced.
They are also adding braze ons for gear and brake cables and finally spraying the frame in Crimson red Flamboyant.
It should be ready in April, which gives me time to source the missing parts needed to complete this build.
