  • they are cn*carbon 38mm. They are now summer/go fast wheels for my orlowski.

  • Or sized up

Pedantic knit-picking is always good fun, but srsly, this. Would look way better a size larger with a shorter and flatter stem. Shame.

  • Given the size of it, I wonder if there is a size up, to be fair.

  • It's actually @BareNecessities new bike, amiright?

    Closet enve fiend

  • What is this, a forum for ants?!

  • I'd guess it's 56 or 58

  • Doesn't matter, chase it up, a good bike shop that supply cannondale should be able to do it for you.

  • I'm building exactly the same frame but with old Dura Ace 9 speeds and stuff.

Basically old groupset on modern frames.

  • Ha, Its a 56. He used to ride a 58.

@edscoble on a caad12? I can see it looking quite nice with old silver bits on.

  • Where you bought them?

  • What is a good replacement fork for a CAAD9?

  • the rims are from LB (light-bicycle), the rest sourced from ebay (hubs) and bike24 (aero comps, brass nipples). Built up by my lbs.

  • was supposed to get about the same set (55 rims, 411/412 straight pull novatecs) for a bit higher price fully built up from LB but they couldnt get the hubs I wanted, they didnt have the cheaper dt swiss available in 24/24 and I couldnt be arsed to pay 300 extra for the pricier dt swisses.

cant remember which one is 240 and which one is 350 but yeah.

  • the basic novatec hubs set they offer is 771/772 which is more of a mtb/cx hubset in my opinion.

those are quite heavy considering 411/412 novatecs are 331g per set, which is about the same weight as multiple times pricier road sets from tune, dt swiss etc.

  • Enve road fork can be had in 1 /8th, 45 rake and the A-C is very close. So you can keep the same handling.

Slice Si Carbon, EC90 SLX, HSC5 all good replacements...if you can find them.

  • Ah, Enve, best start saving. Well, hopefully the steerer in current bike won't be too low to necessitate needing a replacement fork

  • Hi all - I've been asked to find a CAAD for a mates suprise birthday present - I've got a few options and need some advice!

    Option 1 - CAAD7 Optimo
    Option 2 - CAAD9
Option 3 - CAAD4, wild card and half the price of both above...

To the untrained eye all will appear similar - full black builds with gumwalls... If this were for me I think I'd be going for the CAAD7 based on info a mate sent me -

    CAAD4 - Hourglass seat stays
    CAAD5 - Integrated 1 1/8" headset
    CAAD6 - Integrated Hollowgram crankset
CAAD7 - Teardrop shaped toptube, "optimo" tubing used. Optimo aluminum was developed in a partnership with Alcoa and was introduced to the market in 2002 with the CAAD7 road frame. The development process of the specific elements of the alloy took over 18 months, and Cannondale has exclusive use of this alloy in the bicycle industry.
Optimo aluminum is a 6000 series alloy that has superior properties to 6061, 6066, and 6069. Compared to 6061, Optimo's proprietary mix contains slightly more silicon and less magnesium, which results in higher ultimate tensile strength and higher elongation.
CAAD8 - Bladed rear seatstays and redesigned rear dropouts
CAAD9 - Seatstays from the system six. They are essentially the bladed CAAD8 stays moved a little wider apart. Went back to rounded downtube and ovalized the toptube at the headtube junction. The beefed up the toptube, downtube, and seat tube to give it similar stiffness to the CAAD4/5/6.

    What do you guys think??
    Cheers,
    Matt

  • I think I love the old made in the USA caads and whatever you choose he's gonna love. But defo caad7/8/9.

    Also size will help:)

  • What do you guys think??
