Anyone got a wired keyboard I could borrow tomorrow? Hackintosh build is underway and I need a wired keyboard to change bios settings, would be much much appreciated.

Did you ever pick something up? New staff need new laptops and wondering how much to invest - maybe get a basic one and offer them a chance to pay for the upgrade to top themselves?
Developy/designy people - what kind of specs do you like/need?

I'm waiting for the new MacBook with (possibly) much RAM, very processor.

Why would someone invest in their work laptop? Why wouldn't you, as an employer, want them to have proper tools?
-
• #11157
I think giving someone a free laptop to keep and saying that if they want the very fastest model with largest ssd etc they can chip in isn't a bad deal.
When I got my first job I inherited a broken desk with a mouldy banana in the drawer.

If it's a free laptop to keep if they leave then great. Wasnt clear if they were paying to upgrade what would end up as a company laptop when they go
-
• #11159
Ah I see, nope, all theirs. They don't even have to use it for work if they don't want but I'm not buying them another to use in the office :)

Can you buy me one too please? I did that work for you once, that counts right?

hahaha

Wait, you mean that guy that sits in the cupboard isn't you?
-
• #11163
Aha. Great deal then, far better than I've ever got. Haven't had a mouldy banana but did spend 6 months in front of a bottom of the line dell-monitor. Eyes bleeding.

Are you recuriting? What's the minimum contract term for getting a Mac from you? :-P

Anyone experince Touch ID on their iPhone SE that it just stopped working? I have turned it on and off again, but it says it 'failed to launch'
-
• #11167
THIS.
-
• #11168
Touch ID on my SE is rubbish - I have to update my thumbprint once a week to keep it working.. (but I never get 'failed to launch' message)
-
• #11169
Ahhhhh so the card is recognised...
-
• #11170
It was as strange as it was working perfectly fine half way through the day and suddenly it just stopped and refused to acknowledge any fingers, so I thought turning it off and on again to reboot it would work and then got the message it fail to launch. Might restore it late and see if that does the trick.

Finally decided to get a iPad again, just couldn't get on with my Samsung tablet... Ideal size would be 64gb which doesn't exist anymore. Is 32gb quite enough for an iPad? I know it depends on how you use it etc, but is 128gb a little OTT for a tablet? I run it of space a lot on my 64gb iPhone but I do take a lot of pics and video... Which I don't think I'd take out my iPad in the middle of stuff for a quick snap...
BTW only looking at the normal iPad not the pro...

I feel I always say this... but I'd hold out. Current iPad range feels like a stop gap, the fact the mini only comes in 128 is crazy. If you are in no rush I'd wait.

This is a proper N00b question so apologies.
I have a MacBook air with thunderbolt port and a tv with an HDMI port.
What cable do i need to hook the laptop to the TV? it's not really clear what other names are given to a thunderbolt port- is it also called a 'mini display port'?
-
• #11174
Yep, thats the ticket.... connected my MacBook using mini display to HDMI... IRC Thunderbolt is backwards compatible with Mini Display...
