  • I'm really fond of the Royal Oak on Tabard Street. Its a bit of a spit and sawdust pub but the roasts are excellent. The landlord is a butcher, knows how to get maximum bang for his meat buying buck.

  • Anywhere you'd recommend for taking someone out for a nice meal who is gluten and lactose free and tending toward vegetarian (but not strict about it)?

  • My girlfriend is in London with work next week and excited that for once she's travelling without colleagues so can eat where she likes :) She's a big fan of spicy food / seafood / fish. Staying in Bloomsbury but more than happy to travel for eats. Anyone recommend anywhere?

  • Spicy - Silk road in Camberwell is great value Xinjiang (N. China) cuisine. Very tasty.

  • Heading to London's famous in August, I'll try that out.

Looking for other reccos as well, fairly central. I'm open to most options culturally, though not a fan of organ meats generally.
Cheap is good, maybe one higher end too.

  • No Meet and Greet with WP? Very sadface.

If you want higher end but not stupid, you can try Ember Yard in Soho. Spanish Tapas with some Italian influences. I had dinner there last night. Good experience.

As always in London, it's the booze that more than doubles the bill.

  • I'm going on Friday for my birthday. Very excited.

  • Ah, you're too kind - I'm always nervous about meeting new people (I guess that's why I like to travel...?) but if there are some luffgers meeting anyway around that time I could possibly try to slot myself into a corner.
Thanks for the food ideas as well, I'll investigate.

  • We went the for the soft launch and it was banging so I'm sure it's only got better.

Get ready for the burn though, the clams there were the hottest thing I've ever eaten*.

    *I have a medium/low spice tolerance though

  • Looks great- she'll be happy with this I reckon! Usually has to plump for something generic and often travels with a woman who will only eat chicken but not one the bone..... le sigh

  • Based on my previous good luck eating at East Asian cafes with awful names and a vaguely fast food vibe, does anyone here have opinions on Hot Stuff on Wheels?
How about other cheap options of that ilk?
    Thanks.

  • Probably a bit far out but if you're near Greenwich then Zaibatsu (Japanese) is very good, and cheap. Also the Green Pea if you like pies and don't mind the cranky Irish guy that runs it (he's lovely really)

  • I would recommend. Tasty, good value and friendly service.

  • Thanks all!

  • Am trying to arrange a place to eat for 15 on a stag do (early-ish so we won't be too rowdy). Am thinking either Tramshed or Pizza East. Anyone got any thoughts to help swing my decision?

  • Tramshed will be pricier but better (imo) you should be able to get big tables at both restaurants but from memory there is a big table near the cow at Tramshed which is pretty cool

  • I did Bodeans for a similar thing, can't remember which one but we got a private room and just a variety of meat platters. Wasn't too pricey from what I remember.

  • That was a good meal! Definitely go to Tramshed if budget allows @greeno

  • @Tenderloin @aggi @NurseHolliday

cheers guys, think I'll go with Tramshed then. The booze looks pretty expensive there, but the food at Pizza East may actually be more expensive (depending what people order) as they force you to go with a £30pp sharing menu.

How much booze can you drink in two hours anyway...

  • They do a well priced magnum of house red which is good fun to order a few of :)

Much more interesting shout than Pizza East

  • Just been to okan in Brixton market's ramen and soba place on coldharbour lane, well worth a visit. Small but the ramen was great..

  • is that the same guys that had a market stall on the saturday market, if so good that they get an actual place they were nice guys and really in to what they were doing
