  • RIGHT OK so change of plans

Good News: I'm keeping the TCX and making it rad. Here's the plan:

SRAM Rival 1X hydro shifters, derailleur and brakes, Force 42t cranks.
Hope 20Five-RS4 wheels (up for discussion), 11-40 cassette
    Tubeless Clement X-Plor MSO tyres.
Romin Evo Expert and Deda Zero100s for contact points.

Should be light and quick and fun and done in time for Dirty Reiver and bedded in proper for cross in the winter.

Bad news: It fell over today when I was regreasing the headset and it landed on a stool. Big fucking dent in the down tube T___T

  • Big fucking dent in the down tube

    Fuck

  • Rode Dirty Reiver on this at the weekend, which has further convinced me that I don't like it.

I don't want to throw money at it until it's good, and tbh it's barely worth anything to sell (especially now it's dented), so I'm going to turn it in to a turbo commuter / city hack.

    The sole inspiration required is:

  • If anyone can help me with MTB parts (I don't know anything about MTB parts) then I would be appreciative. Need hydro brakes, mech / shifter at least. Could probably go for a 1X crank if it's cheap / compatible / the chainline works. Do I need a new cassette or is 11 speed 11 speed regardless?

Apparently this shit is cheap second hand so a) sell me the bits I need b) point me to where they are sold.

  • bruh I have dis for sell that will sort you out!

(Minus bell and go pro mount)

Thats 10 speed SLX shifter and XT rear mech, hydro brakes (these: https://www.bike24.com/p2132835.html), FuManChu bars, ESI grips

    Keen?

  • Cool, well that's the brakes and shifters sorting thanks to Amey.

Who has a 170mm BB30 crank that is easy to 1X that they want to sell me?

  • Need 170s but thanks @amey

  • 1.) Why not just chuck a narrow wide on your current cranks?
2.) didn't know you could use BB30 cranks with BB86?

  • You can't use a proper BB30 crank on BB86 as the shell is too wide. Rotor 3d+ or similar 30mm (386evo?) cranks work ok with their 4130 BB as they have a wider axle and use spacers when run in bb30 shells.

  • As @danb pointed out, no cross compatibility between BB30 and BB86. I didn't think our TCX were BB86 though?

Currently cranks are 172.5 which are too long, and also the N/W rings for Shimano cranks look ugly imo.

  • My TCX SLR 1 certainly is bb86, pretty sure the frame is exactly the same on the SLR2 and it's only the forks that are different.

  • You're probably right then.

    Who's got BB86 170mm cranks then?

  • Mine deff is too, one of the points of the standard is that you can use 'normal' cranks (i.e hollowtech / GXP), But why not save yourself a load and keep the cranks you have?

  • As above. They're too long and I don't like how they look with NW rings.

  • Oh, sorry didn't see that post. I'm pretty sure that if you use MTB cranks you'll have to use some spacers with your BB as they have a longer axle.

  • Ugh, I really want some of those bars but they're all out :( This should turn out decently though
