If your budget is tight and the bike is a beater, get budget cranks off eBay:

I've gone similar as what @Vince linked with http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMBROSIO-PRESTIGE-TRACK-CHAINSET-1-8-X-48T-X-165MM-SQUARE-TAPER-/391491217633?hash=item5b26b1e8e1%3Ag%3A2roAAOSweW5VZGa-&_trkparms=pageci%3D6c3aa1f5-4e9e-4185-9db1-a4c35d1d78d1%2Cparentrq%3Deb9fb1211560aa133242f4ebfffb8f39%2Ciid%3D1%2Cobjectid%3D109118 for my commuter.

I had budge Lasco cranks for years and never had any issues with them.
Ambrosio ones look identical so that's a good shout to get branded cranks

Thanks all, Tom I really wanted 165mm so will take a punt on those eBay Ambrosios. Does anyone know if I can get a 45mm chain line with them?

I'm looking for something similar, currently getting rid of the cottered cranks on a bike I've been converting. Am looking to keep costs fairly low. Those Ambrosio cranks look like a decent, but also cheap choice, I was wondering how anyone has got on with them? Is it worth buying them over some off brand ebay ones?

knightster, I picked up these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AMBROSIO-PRESTIGE-TRACK-CHAINSET-1-8-X-48T-X-165MM-M15-SQUARE-TAPER-/272531148787?hash=item3f741f4ff3:g:XDYAAOSwUKxYhNud last year and they (touch wood) have been great. I bought them with a 113mm Shimano UN26 and together its fine for the daily commute...

I have Shmano 8 speed compact square taper in black, new £35 posted, Please PM?
Hi anyone got any relatively inexpensive 165mm cranks surplus to requirements. Current set keep falling off so suspect the insides have been rounded. Only for a daily commuter so nothing too special but hoping for 130mm BCD to match my 48T chainring if possible?
Thanks in advance
Tim
