I run a freewheel on a fixed thread

If the freewheel has the same chainline as a fixed sprocket, it can't put more stress on the hub thread. Of course it looks frightening having all that unengaged thread on the freewheel body, but it's not doing any harm. Remember, in the olden days our top sprocket was hanging off the threaded part of the hub by about an inch with no support, and we didn't have any trouble.

Unless we had an 8 speed freewheel. So many cheap MTBs with 8 speed freewheels used to come in with snapped axles. I replaced many, or just replaced the wheel. Despite me pointing out they'd be far better off spending a little bit more on a freehub wheel and cassette.

I used to think they stopped making them at 8 speed but you can get 9 and 10 speed freewheels too.

I was going to mention the snapped axles, but we were really talking about the freewheel threads, which very rarely gave any trouble. 6-speed road hubs used to break their axles too, although it's worse on axles with nuts than hollow ones with QRs because the compressive preload from the QR actually reduces the peak tensile load on the outside of the axle bend.

New 49T chainring and RS30s off of my track bike makes this more race ready than I am. 30 years ago today I did 25:52 on this round the old version of the Fifield 10. If I can anywhere near that this year on the faster current version, I'll be pleased.

You joke but if I won the lottery the first thing I'd buy is a cargo e-bike. Saw a guy taking his kids to school on one a few months ago, so practical it hurts

I have the same and they're never uncomfortable, so not bad. Until you switch back to Shimano ones and notice the difference. They're a little harsh/dense and not very ergonomically shaped, but they do the job and are cheap. The hood rubbers are quite stiff and don't cover a lot of area, so doing a tidy bar wrap can be a challenge I've experienced. 4/5.

Next time I would shell out a little bit more and get SRAM Single Speed levers:

Or find some second hand Campagnolo ones. Probably the most comfortable ones I've ridden.

The other option is the new Promax one that is surprisingly comfortable and very cheap, hood are closer to Campag than cane creek.

Stuck seatpost but headset in decent condition, cockpit functional, missing nds crank and wheel. BB works but far from smooth. All parts dismantled from frame.

Do you know if this wheel is any good, guessing it would be ~£350 to get a hope ss wheel built up, which seems to be the main alternative? Have been running a spaced rear wheel on my commuter, but would either like it back for the 'good' bike so I can have a set of wheels with some cross tyre on.
