• I need a mountain bike frame for upcoming adventures
    I am 6ft 3" / 190cm
    So I probably need a 21-23" frame
I would like steel so I can modify it to my needs.
    Wheel size should be min. 27.5" x 2.1" or 29" x 2.0"+ (could be a 26" if it eats 27.5")

I don't have much of a budget here as it is parts bin build and wifey thinks I have to many bikes. I could swap for some easy frame repairs, modifications of your frame or I could fix your broken frame, ride it until the end of the season and give it back to you when I get around to building my own.
I could also be interested in damaged frames if I can repair them myself.

I am currently looking at something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ragley-Piglet-Frame-/282426984895?hash=item41c1f5c9bf:g:tBYAAOSwc49Y6j8T

Let me know what you got

  • Edit: Scratch that suggestion - missed min 27.5 wheel size.

  • I already have 650beez and some 2.1" tyres and some 29er wheels with 2.0" tyres I'd like to use instead of buying new wheels etc

I've got most of this MTB for sale still, not really sure if it's what you're after though. Also have a roberts in need of repair and a litespeed that's cracked.

  • I imagine that is not going to be cheap enough for me.
I'll pm you regarding the Roberts tho.

  • Litespeed tho....

  • ;-)

I have never TIGged Ti before, but I guess some time's gotta be a first.

  • specialized globe with carbon seat stays and forks.

I know they are aluminium based but I have a Globe pro (& Globe Expert) and they are simply one of the most bombproof frames I've owned. I was rear ended in a hit and run 5-6 years ago and though the wheel was pringled the frame showed zero signs of damage, I've come off a couple of times due to mtorist/pedestrian misdemeanors and it doesn't bat an eyelid.
The Globe will take 29er wheels if you want and has space for 42mm with mudguards no problem at all up to about 55mm without. It has all the mudguard/rack fittings you'd ever want, I've never been under 100kg and have ridden it with another adult on board and with loaded panniers (so about 180kg total), 7 years of solid commuting/utility, audax and touring and it's as solid as it came out the factory, as a do-it-all bike/frame I simply couldn't recommend it enough whether it be for fast road riding or rougher terrain.
problem is finding a good one in your size (a 58 would do it). just some musings anyhow.

I do have an older 20" MTB frame that's in very good order you could have for a donation to CDF though collection would be North Herts or postage at cost.

  • Thanks for your suggestion. I am looking for a MTB frame tho.

  • I have been investigating a bit and the frames I have been offered are all too small. Thanks though. It is much appreciated. Reach is fine but stack height and seatpost length is an issue.
If somebody has an old Rockhopper size 23" or similar that would be ideal.

  • No worries, i would have thought with a quill converter it'd raise that by quite a few inches (I have a steel one in good nick) plus ahead stem or just a long shaft quill you'd easily get the height, plus a 350mm seatpost you'd be good to go.
Change your mind just give me a nod.

  • I've got an enormous on one inbred frame, no forks, 29. Any good?

  • Yes. That could be very interesting.
Could I have some photos and a price please?

  • Very tempted to hand you the Raleigh 853 for a spell in exchange for a disc mount and some braze-ons

  • I've been sort of tempted by this a bit. Massively impractical though.

  • That could be arranged anyway.
I am working getting an Inbred as we speak tho

  • Thanks but I need disc brakes and I can't weld alu

  • I am seriously feeling the need for effective braking and 650b wheels.

  • Ohhhh yes

  • I have srsly negative money though :(

Modifying a big Inbred does sound good, looking forward to seeing the results

  • I have found a frame now. Thank you!
