Can anyone give me a good rule of thumb for replacing my stylus? Just do it every x years, or listen for sibyllance (sp?) or distortion? In the words of the late great Whitney: How will I know?

Where can I find some very low speaker stands to get my LGMs off the floor? Should I use spikes too?
If you want to be a proper nerd then you record how many sides of LPs your stylus has played.
obviously normal people cba with all that, so just listen for the "s" sounds getting a tiny bit slurred and when you hear that, think about changing your stylus.
The plinth on the ones I used to have unscrewed / detached for sale/transportation. You could see if there is a smart way of just cutting them to size.
