  • Always good advice!

  • Sports masseur has diagnosed a calf tendon issue from the bruising on the back of my leg. Cycling not affected, so will x train until Belfast marathon.

  • Is anyone here using calf sleeves? Pretty consistently had calf trouble this whole marathon build up. Can't seem to knock it on the head

  • After a few calf niggles in the previous week, I tried them out on raceday for Glasgow to Edinburgh. Glad I did, as the run was niggle free ☺

I tried the 2xu ones but they didnt offer any noticeable support and the next size down wouldnt fit over my heel.

    Ended up with Hilly

  • Big fan of CEP stuff on the basis it's done on size of calf rather than shoe size or something else unrelated.

If you are shorter like me the women's ones are worth a look as the only difference is the length.

  • I have a brand new pair of Skinz (size small) guards if interested?

  • I use them for long runs... not sure if there is an actual benefit or just placebo but I like them.

  • Cool, more than good enough for me. My soleus has flared up big time, just in time for Sunday.

Think I'll have the opposite problem though Ed, 6'6 with the accompanying skinny calves.

  • Haha fair enough, no idea if anyone does extra long/extra skinny ones!

  • went to the Expo, got my number, walked around, bought a caffeine gel, left.

    Not long now.

  • I plan to make a flying visit on Saturday afternoon, annoyingly my letter with details went to my old house, so I'll have to stop at the help desk to negotiate that.

Getting excited now, had a sports massage today, apparently I'm nicely symmetrical in my tight muscles with matching knots in my calf muscles that are now gone!

  • Hilly size S. Measuring whilst wearing them.
37cm around largest part of calf
    29cm down front of shin
    31.5cm down the back
Fit over a size 10 foot.

  • might be worth giving them a call before then. they can be pretty jobsworth about these things.

  • I have done, and I'm following their advice, I just suspect it will add to the time/stress on the day.

  • VLM runners. if you let me know what kit you're running in and what time you'll be aiming to hit mile 21 I'll try and have my camera ready at the run dem cheer spot to grab a pic. just make plenty of noise when you come through (throwing up some gunfingers will get you the biggest cheer) .

Managed to get philpub and duncs last year

and another reminder (seeing as you all ignored my last post) BBC's Mind over Marathon is on tonight covering mental health and running with the Run Dem founder helping to train up 10 people with varying mental health issues to run on Sunday.

  • Just working out exact gel locations for Sunday, and had already picked mile 21!

Will grab a picture but I'll be in a yellow vest, blue and red shorts and white socks with a green headband - cos matching colours are beyond me.

Number 31145, should be there around 12:23-25 if things are going to plan!

  • It's technically a couple of hundred yards just before mile 21. You won't miss it though.

I think bbc are going to be filming at cheer dem for the follow up program next week as well so you may even get on telly.

  • Am sure this will be complete marmite for the audience here but one of the Run Dem people was filming last year and put this together, just posted it on our facebook group.

  • I'm going to be in a dark blue kent vest with my name 'TIM' in white, lighter blue short shorts and blue trainers. Number 1601. If all is going to plan i will pass mile 21 at 12:06.

I'll keep an eye out for that programme this evening.

  • Free to a good home.

Runtastic - heart rate monitor chest strap
    Think model is 'combo'

Works with iPhone & runtastic app over Bluetooth (other combinations probably also work)

I can't vouch for the batteries but it was used around 10 times and sat in a cupboard since (about a year).

I'm up north so pm me with address and I'll post - stick a couple of quid into the forum if you feel generous.

  • Have fun Marathoners, anyone live trackable? #dotwatching

  • Accompanied my friend to the expo, bumped into the Runners from last night's Mental health BBC doc. Patted the hiking one on the back and wished him luck. They look so hyped to be running.

  • Good luck all - Get carbed up!

  • My sister's partner is running this year. First proper attempt at a marathon after doing his first pretty much off the cuff in 3.08(!) last year. I think somewhere around 2.50-2.55 is doable.
    @Grand-Wizard-Goma-Sauce knows him from Runhead.

So yell for Greg at around 12.15-12.20 if you see this guy

    running in this vest

  • good luck @Sainsburys_Ed and other VLMers!
