mystery red cinelli - neo-retro build

  • new frame day!

dunno what this is. Supercorsa Bottom bracket, but other than that no obvious markings.

    it's approx 61 x 57 C-C

fame is weighing in at 1845g
    fork is 750g

seems reasonably light to me? but I know nothing.

got some deda piega + a gitane quill with the frameset. (573g)

Plan is to eventually build this up as a nice, good weather/daily roadie. Having only really built fixed bikes before, this is a whole new ball game for me.

  • immediate plan:
shove on all fixed gear parts.

turns out the seatpost is 27.0 However, Thomson elite inline ordered!

in the next month or so:

    full 105 groupset
Mavic Askium / Fsa team 35 - open to better suggestions further down the line but at the moment I just want cheap to get this going!
    Thomson elite inline - black

    long term
carbon fork (can easily get that down by 400g right?!
    nicer wheelset + lighter cockpit

  • I can assure you that's not a Cinelli. Cinelli made lugs too, for a lot of manufacturers. The spoiler bottom bracket was used on a lot of frames back then.

  • I thought that might be the case. Any ideas what it might be?

  • Not a clue, could be anything.

  • Further to @nutsjesmoar assurance of not a Cinelli frame;
The Spoiler BB Shells tended to be used on better-than-average frames as the shell came at a price point where builders wouldn't shell out for one of these just to put it on a gas pipe low end frame.
    Should be reasonable at least!

  • I used to own a Sirius with that BB. 653 tubing. Nice bike.

  • so, build so far!

first roadbike, still need to dial in fit. weird riding it after being on a fixed for so long, but its fast and comfy! I think the flex compared to a stiff alu track frame is noticable, but in a good way, relly enjoyed my commute!
