  • If you had asked the 25 year old archaeologist me ten years ago, he would have said it meant "rich". But that guy lived with his mother in law (and his wife, he wasn't a total weirdo) and had near enough zero regular outgoings.

  • should realise they have more in common with me

    Fuck

  • If you had asked the 25 year old archaeologist me ten years ago, he would have said it meant "rich".

If you ask me that now, it mean the same thing base on my current lacklustre salary!

  • Also, remember that with tax, NI, pension and student loan contributions, I don't see over 40% of that.

Not forgetting your extensive landscape gardening project which would beggar Louis XIV.

  • It's the ongoing maintenance/getting a man in to counter my ineptitude that's gonna cost me

  • I think London (and a few other areas) are different though. I worked out that if I moved back up north I could take a £25k pay cut and still be in a similar situation to London (and that's not counting being able to get 3 pints and some scampi fries and still have change from a tenner).

  • I suppose they're defining rich as the point at which you no longer have to worry about paying for living, can afford an expensive hobby or two (or family) and still have spare cash to save/invest.

Edit: Rather than as someone else said, able to live for decades without having to work.

  • I know right, that's probably why people vote tory.

  • Where in London stocks tubeless sealant and injectors?

Or even small bottles of sealant with a nozzle that can be injected once valve core is removed.

Evans only appear to have big bottles but none of the stuff to get it into the wheels.

  • I guess it's the term 'rich' that I'm questioning.

Yeah. He used the wrong term there, I think. What a clanger.

  • You need a top up or stock? I can help with the former.

Soho bikes probably. Give em a call first tho.

  • The issue here is with the word "rich" rather than the specific amount which is high for some people and not for others.

Being rich relates to what you OWN not so much to what you EARN. Linking richness to income was a mistake in the original article which led to the initial confusion and this whole discussion is subequently pretty moot.

    ...as you were.

  • stock up and top up. got a puncture that stays sealed while riding but if it is not covered by sealant the air can escape, want to put some extra sealant in the tyre.

also the thread on my stans injector has gone, so need a new injector.

Agree. It's the wrong word. Quite how the shadow CotE can drop such a clanger is beyond me but then not much surprises at the moment, does it?

  • Quite how the shadow CotE can drop such a clanger is beyond me

If the shadow only has to be as good as the office holder, then economic literacy has not been a job requirement this century.

  • Ok, I feel better knowing it wasn't just me that thought this was odd. I definitely don't feel rich, especially two years into a mortgage and 5 years of paying back student loan.

  • Wait til you have kids....

  • You're able to get and payback a mortgage.you post lots of stuff about home renovation. You wear expensive watches. You're rich.

  • You post on the internet. You have a hand held mobile phone. You're rich, compared with ~100% of the world's population pre-1970, if your definition of rich is based on access to facilities (revenue) rather than ownership of revenue generating property (capital)

  • Does anybody still make 700c mixte frames? I am looking to build a bike for my father in law, who at 85 has had a hip replacement so can no longer get his leg over. I want to build something nice and light for him as he lives in the Black forest so a heavy shopping bike is not ideal. He is 6'3" so it needs to be big!

  • Hmmm, interesting, thank you

  • I never said i wasn't.
