Which bike that have proprietary BB? only one I think of is Trek BB90 own bearing which isn't that pricey.

£50 is fine, just above average.

I was thinking the same but didn't want to sound like a total cheapskate.

Is the frame/headset in question just a bog standard, bearing in frame integrated headset? If so, £10 should be more than enough to buy replacement bearings.
