  • Well, I suppose that's technically true, but the Lib Dems alone are not going to win a majority, so it will be necessary to join forces with others. And in choosing others, it makes sense to go for the least worst option. As the Tories are the worst option (for many) then they can be ruled out. That mostly leaves Labour, and, in a few instances, Green.

In other words, in a constituency where Lib Dems cannot win, but there is a strong chance that the Tories would win, then a vote for Labour would make tactical sense. That will hold back the Tory majority, and give a chance to another non-Tory (in this instance Labour) to contribute to the debate.

In my own constituency (Battersea), the Tories are dominant, with Labour not too far behind, and the Lib Dems a long way behind. There's no point in voting for the Lib Dems as my vote would almost certainly count for nothing where it matters (i.e. in the constituency itself to choose my MP).

  • Hang on, A50 has been triggered/issued/fired- we're leaving. I doubt the EU27 would countenance a "sorry, we changed our minds!" And even if they did it'd be Schengen, the Euro, no rebate- the full political integration which we had evaded previously and would be incredible toxic to the UK public given the established narrative of the EU being a socialist wasteland ruled by unaccountable Brusselians.

Therefore we need to vote for the party that will make the least worst exit- probably the best we can hope for is the Norway model, paying in and bound by the rules but with no say. If we don't want to be a tax haven with all social provision handled by charities and the Church, of course.

The Tories are unable, due to ideological conflict, to achieve anything but a staggering butt-fucking for the entire nation, so they're out- but who would make a go of these negotiations?

  • claims his twitters were h4xx0r3d. Classic twittering.

  • Doesn't matter how I vote, I'm in the very Tory Wimbledon. I might vote green.

  • Just to say I tried when the apocalypse comes

  • Shame if Lab and Lib eject such a plan. Based on the theory that the friend of my enemy is my friend. This could really change the game should they agree. Which they won't as you say

Absolutely, it's probably the only chance of getting the Tories out. Heck, if I was Labour I'd stand down candidates in Brighton and Bristol in exchange for the Green's standing down everywhere else.

    Never going to happen though

  • A Labour and Greens alliance sounds like a great idea as I have often had to choose between the two . I suspect it would be attractive to many others too but how could it work ?
What would be the opposition to this from both parties ?
“We understand that, in the immediate run-up to an election, signalling a willingness to work with other parties might be difficult but we hope you’ll agree that the times we are living in require leaders to be courageous and visionary, to actively build a more positive politics.

  • No chance. I use a proper hairdresser's type shaver to chew through my steelisreal stubble.

    ALL THE VOLTS!

  • Time to don a mask and lynch a Womble.

  • is now the time? seems I went early.

  • Not Pro Brexit. Whatever Corbyn's personal views, the Labour Party has always campaigned against Brexit. They accept the inevitability of Brexit following the referendum but are committed to ensuring that the Brexit that is negotiated does not leave us worse off than at present. This means that, when push comes to shove, they will oppose whatever deal May negotiates as any deal will be worse than the status quo.

  • Don't we all...

  • This means that, when push comes to shove, they will oppose whatever deal May negotiates as any deal will be worse than the status quo.

I simply don't believe they will. And even if they did, they will have missed their opportunity to influence the process (that was the article 50 bill that they failed to affect at all).

They're just an irrelevance in the Brexit process.

  • This needs to be more about EU Referendum mk2. Everyone who voted remain should vote for the Lib Dems.

  • You're an Ozzie shouldn't you be using a petrol mower?

  • is this the dogging version of choking a chicken?

  • Sheep shears normally but the missus went all carbon neutral so we just burn stolen kero in the gennie to power shit like this.

  • Not sure, I'll ask my mum.

  • The lib dems have burned a generation.

What % of the vote did they actually get?

In what world does that meager number of MPs give you the ability to do anything on your own?

They gambled their political capital on the AV vote and they lost. Had it succeeded it would have paid political dividends.

All the Lib Dem voters/bedwetters need a reality check.

  • In what world does that meager number of MPs give you the ability to do anything on your own?

any number of MP's should mean you don't pedal back on every promise that got those people elected.

  • What like raising the national allowance? Or reducing the deficit? Or pushing the renewable agenda?
