:) thanks! i am happy i dont have to cut my foot out!
i am guessing the hammer was to make a small dimple on my heel to get more clearance, similar to chain-stay / crank-arm issues

Yes, it's your choice whether to adjust your foot or your brake caliper really. Either will work, but if you choose the former, you should sniff the superglue first...
