I've just found them out. They have adjustable cable pull so can be used with canti or v brakes. (Sorry for poor picture)

I still use a set of these on my 29er. Solid levers. Older than any part on the bike by some margin (except the rider that is).

They are a solid little pair of levers, I've had them for a while and have always kept them for just incase. But that's like most items in the parts bin!
